Title: The BGE_AirRace game/sim demo
Post by: Ex-jazz on June 16, 2010, 02:13:08 PM
Hi

I'm making a non-commercial hobby air-race game/sim with Blender 3D's build-in game engine, which is using the Bullet physic engine.

You can see my current state on this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7422m-zrRUo

Older one with sounds/music:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYDfISes8xU

I finally could make a .exe version for the public show.

Here is a Menu screen
(http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/BGE_airRace_track.png)

Game zip file(27M):
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_demo.zip

Unzip file to any location.

This requires at least three axis joystick. The pedals are not supported yet, since the flight model is lacking the yaw input.

User need to first run the HOTAS.exe to make a configuration file for the BGE_AirRace_demo.exe.

Start the BGE_AirRace_demo.exe and maximize the screen.

About the penalty system (track-judge) you can find more from included ReadMe.txt file.

I try to create better brief & instruction later on.

Thank you for your attention

 Xjazz

Will definitely give this a download.

Is a joystick required for play?

Hi Tec,

Please, could you tell what OS you have? I made this with WinXP.

XP Home SP3.  I'll try it on my other machine in a little bit and report back.

Tec did you extract all the files before trying to run the exe?

edit:  Actually Tec, try installing the latest .NET framework.

Hi

I compiled a new .exe with Blender3D's own Save As Runtime function.

New .exe do not require a .NET installation.

Use original download link.

If you are interested, you can find a source file here:

Hi folks,

How it's flying?

I know the FM has plenty of faults, but how is the actual race flying?

All comments and/or critics are most welcome.

Thanks

Hi

One last time.

"
Hi

I have a small one man air race game/sim hobby project, made with the Blender Game Engine, which is a standard part of the free Blender software.

The main menu screen:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/m_main_s.png

The BGE_AirRace game play
The game is related to the Red Bull Air Racing.

The game play is straight forward. Fly two laps solo race as fast as you can, and avoid the time penalties.

The track
Yes, the track just reminds the Red Bull Air Race Barcelona track...
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/TMR_s.png

The track in download game is 50% bigger than real life track.

You can see a some real action on these dev. state films:
1.5:1 test track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYDfISes8xU
1:1 test track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7422m-zrRUo

The game is saving after successful race the result .csv file, which includes gate-by-gate 'flight recorder' data with possible penalties:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/BGE_AirRace_resultboard.png

Installation
Just unzip the zip file where ever you want.
NOTE!
At least three axis joystick is needed.

Playing
Start the game with BGE_AirRace_a002.exe.
Configure your HOTAS and save, which is creating a txt file with your configuration.
Check the Track & Rules
And RACE!

The Viewing
A classic numpad key viewing system.

The BGE_AirRace download link (17M zip):
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_demo_a002.zip

Your comments and critics are most welcome.

Best Regards

It's great work Ex-Jazz.

I really like how I can accelerate straight up ;).

Thanks Tec & Mensa180,

Yes, there are several issues still with the fm, like over simple thrust model, lateral stability issues & missing stalls.  I will start working with these next.

Also the 3D models and textures are next to coarse, but maybe some day I have something like to these:

Hi

I made a new test version, which have a thrust, drag and instantaneous rolling torque values checked.

This should fix the vertical climb issue, insane forward acceleration and twitchy roll behaving.

Please, let me know, how it's working out for you.

Thank you for your advance.

Hi BaDkaRmA158Th,

Thank you for your comment.

The development is ongoing   :)

The jeep racing is possible and I actually already made one arcade off-road / trial game demo.

Only once, but it was after the secret CIA F16 mission over (censored).

Now I must take my brain tumor treatment and finish polishing of my precious P51.
