Title: Baen Sci Fi books on CD
Post by: Ghosth on June 21, 2010, 06:41:15 AM
These CD's were originally placed in the cover of new Baen Releases. They are now free to download, thanks to the Baen free library. Each book on the CD is there in a variety of formats including *.doc, *.htm, *.lit (MS Reader) *.prc, *.rb (rocketbook) *.rtf (my favorite)

These CD's contain some of the better Science Fiction and Fantasy writing you'll find. With authors like Dave Drake, Eric Flint, John Ringo, Mercedes Lackey, and David Weber.

Each CD will contain somewhere around 15 - 20 books, however you will notice that some books or series of them are in more than 1 cd.

Anyway, anyone looking for some first class Sci Fi reading material  would have to work hard to find better material than this. And you won't find it any cheaper.

So with no more BS, here is the link.

If you can't find something in here to enjoy, you need to seriously widen your horizons.
Personally I'm reading David Weber & Eric Fint's 1633, about an alternate universe, where a West Virginia Coal mining town gets picked up and dropped down in Germany, in, yep, you guessed it, 1633.

Death to paper, save the tree's.
Viva la Ebook!

I like the idea of digital reading material but it's hard to read at times. I prefer to spend some time reading in bed and taking the laptop to read is more than I want to deal with. I still prefer the book style reading material. Eventually I'll probably check out one of the pad readers in order to be able to get some books that are hard to find in print.

I agree that Flint has a great story there. It got really expanded from the first novel which he planned as a stand alone. There are several authors writing other volumes in the same "world" he started.

Webber is fantastic and very very prolific. The guy puts out some great stuff. If you like Webber and Flint you'll also like John Ringo. Chris Bunch has some good stuff and also dabbles in fantasy as well as hard sci fi.

Webber had a couple good novels he co wrote with Linda Evans, the Hell Gate volumes. I have the first two but can't find out if there is going to be a 3rd volume. It would be a shame if they drop it as the story was only half told in the second book. Heck of a long first volume though but really hard to put down.

Maverick you might want to look at something like a Jetbook ebook reader.

Its designed to do one thing, and do it well, display ebooks.

About the same size as a slim paperback, you can find the Jetbook Lite for around 99$ on newegg.

My wife and I write for the Grantville Gazette http://www.grantvillegazette.com/ (http://www.grantvillegazette.com/)

As long as ya'll keep reading we gat paid for hanging out together, that is kind of my ideal pastime. (Really big grin)

More seriously, during the first week in August, is the North American Science Fiction convention in Raleigh, NC.

Eric Flint is the GoH and we are having the 1632 mini con track there too. Eric will be "Snerking" the plots... (giving some previews of upcoming events in the story cycle) and we will be talking about "weird tech"

I can tell you this, the <<<<< commentary removed by the GG editorial police>>>> lots of fun will be had by all. (Evil Grin)

Regards,
Kevin

I went to the Baen web site several times hoping to find word about the third Hell Gate book. I even sent e-mails asking if there was any idea of a time line for publication of the volume but got no answer to inquiries.

Ghosth, thanks I'll check into it.

David is up to his ears in contracts. If you register with Baen's Bar, a forum, David has two and a half sub forums of his own. Grin there is a forum for discussing books that have not yet been fully released, that is, not hit paperback release. (some times called all Webber all the time) BTW first virtual drink is on the house, The second is on me Grin.

Kevin
