There's a rumor going around here at work... was wondering if anyone has heard anything in regards to this. I'd say what I've heard, but I feel it has already been exagerated to the point of unreliability. Tom's Hardware didn't have anything on it either... so I question its validity.
I sincerely hope its not true. Here at Intel, we developed a love/hate relationship for this company. I don't know of a single soul here that wishes AMD the kind of trouble that the rumor mill is reporting.

Looks to be a false rumor. AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com) had this (http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.html?i=3373&t=sn) to say.

Seems most of the hub-bub was caused by OCWorkbench.com (http://www.OCWorkbench.com) with this statement:
AMD Taiwan stop distributing AMD AthlonXP to retail stores
Posted by overclocker at 13:35
Taipei, Taiwan - According to our Taiwanese correspondent, those who have bought the new Athlon XP are in luck as the Taiwanese distributor are asking retailers to return their unsold Athlon XP to the distributor and new stocks are not available to replenish the hot market. The distributor told the retailers that AMD is recalling the CPUs. Why is AMD stopping the distributor to distribute to the retailers remains a mystrey..
