Welcome

I have a feeling that we have another BaldEglJr on our hands. He seems to like to argue in the game (from what I've seen), but its went both ways. I'll give him a second chance.
-
If you were trying to insert C.ivil A.ir P.atrol into your name, you failed.
Good luck with the game, I guess...

.SQUELCH ACP442
:furious

he's also in my squad and is a great pilot. who gives a crap if hes 13? tell him to ease up on the talking and he will. He's mature enough for us. He can be for you too, just tell him to stop talking.

don't get him started on his cars or plane engines :lol he knows what he talks about. Even gave me a few pointers about the P38s Rolls Royce Allisons i didn't know about. I didn't even know the 38 HAD Allisons.
And nemesis if i remember correctly you're almost a bad when it comes to arguments...

:salute

:huh :headscratch:
he wasnt the only one to tell me it had allisons. 200 channel gave me 2 others saying the same.
Edit: in fact i just looked it up online. the P38 had twin Allison engines at 1,400 HP for the G and the J and L introduced the turbocharger intercooler system into the design with more powerful engines included.
-
The P38s did have Allisons, I believe this may be a checkmate. :lol

Rolls Royce never built an engine names the "Allison." Allison did... you see, they're a whole different company and stuff. RR built the Merlin, Griffin, etc.

didn't packard build some licensed versions of rolls royce engines?

Yes I believe there was a liscenced version of the Allison made by Rolls Royce.

i don't think so.

Wow, I said something completely bassackwards. My bad. I think what I meant to say is I think Packard did make a liscenced Rolls Royce. I have no idea what I was trying to say in the previous comment.

IMO, lisencing and that crap goes out the window in a time of war. Everyone who can will make the most powerfull engine currently being built, and give it to whoever needs it the most.

He may think he knows engines but he definitely does not know anything about the Lightning, there wasn't a single P-38 that was ever outfitted with a Rolls Royce engine. The reason why you never heard of the pointers he gave you is because the pointers were incorrect.
ack-ack

Packard built Merlins under license, but to my knowledge RR never built Allisons under license... why would they?

Man I dont even know where to start with this...... I'm not a very good fisherman so I think I'll toss this off to one of the better bait handlers.
It's a good thing only you care about "IMO" because you have no idea what your talking about.
PS: dont you have a pillow to bury??

I've noticed you're not the only one recently either, did the History channel fub another documentary somewhere? I've heard a couple people in the past year led to believe the Allison engine came outa Rolls Royce.

i've always had that in the back of my mind also. i kept hearing RR Allison somewhere. maybe it was the History Channel

I think I recall the history channell spitting out something like that once, and they kept flashing to a picture of a four cannon pony.
-
Allison was a division of General Motors that made their higher end/turbo motors.
I don't think they were ever licensed out to anyone since GM had enough manufacturing capacity at the start of the war, and was able to expand fast enough to keep up.
GM also owned Detroit Diesel. GM eventually merged the companies into Detroit Allison, then sold if off to Daimler in 1970 if I recall right.
I see a lot of inaccuracies on the History channel sometimes, it's scary. But perhaps the confusion lies in the Mustang getting a Merlin engine to upgrade it, and someone at HC assumed the P38 upgrade was a Merlin as well?
I have to wonder though, how the P38 would have performed with twin boosted Merlins :)

What is this topic about again?

Not entirerly. But I DO think that whatever the best design is, should be produced by as many companies as can make it. Why would you want to produce F4F's rather than FM2's?

Depends on whether I own Grumman or General Motors stock I guess. You do realize these companies
do get paid for their efforts even during wartime, right?
