Post by: maus92 on June 27, 2010, 08:24:23 PM
Suggestions for a sound card optimized for games, particularly AH?

For me, older Sound Blasters give you good bang for your buck.

I'm running an Audigy 4 that I picked up off ebay for 1/4 the going price.
But even a SB Live or similar should do you just fine.

I had good luck for years running a SB PCI128, then a PCI 512. Both of which were quite reasonably priced.

Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer, will give you good sounds in modern games with EAX 5.0 support.

I have to agree with Ghost here on the old SB line of products.  I slapped in an old "SB-Live" PCI audio card into my dual boot system of Winblows XP and Winblows7 64 bit for testing and it worked flawlessly and it even has an old gameport in it.  Those older SB cards can be had for almost a dime a dozen and like the "eveready bunny", they just keep on ticking.

All the Best...
