Looshey sounds like Darth Vader on vox. :noid
Pops calls me Dunnrite all the time Dunn. :lol We must sound alike or he's getting old and can't hear well anymore. :lol

:huh

Not many actually try to pronounce my ID (for whatever reason) but a few I get are: Excalibur and excisor. Normally have to spell it out, X-sell-see-or. :D
Yeah Why is that? I noticed a lot of the Japanese players wont talk either.
Maybe they simply can't or are afraid to? I have no idea but I would guess it's a communication difference that makes talking next to impossible. I've had a Japanese player partner in another game and communication was quite difficult since they tried to speak English and word placement was a bit off.
-
Before I changed my name to all caps, I would hear people call me colonel because the 1 in clone155 looked like an L. I still hear it from time to time.
-
I noticed a lot of the Japanese players wont talk either.
Maybe - I know that's a crazy thought - because they don't speak English? ;)
-

Well I am specifically addressing the individuals that will respond in text & that would mean they clearly understood what I said & know enough of the English language that they can type it out. Now back to the question why do you not speak on range? Only curious no Mic? Another reason maybe? If you choose not to answer I wont push the point. :aok

This too is what I think is the reason for the Japanese players not speaking on range. Just for the record Japanese players there is plenty of English speaking country's that have players on that I have no clue as to what was said on range. Plenty of people may think the same of me & my accent as well :).
-
Ehfexx? Ive had some weird mispronunciations before: Ehfezz, Ehfezx, Ezi(?).
-
HOW many people call me BAR... its B.A.R. you evil little idiots!!! get it right :rofl
So can't I just call you Browning Automatic Rifle?
I get called "the old Wildcat" sometimes. People have mistaken me for an old warbird pilot, apparently used to use say "over" after saying anything. Whose name was also Wildcat.
Worldkitty
F4F
Cat :aok
Actually thought about changing my ID to fbElgato :aok :D
-
Bunz, Bonez, Benzs, Beanz...I've heard it all
-
It's ByRf.
Bee-why-are-eff, Bye-arf, Bye-ref, Bi, Ref, Bee-yerf, and Beef.
People have tried to insult me by calling me barf, but I think I prefer that pronounciation.
-
Hi Tuuk
:D froger
-
Matty, Mako, Shark, Mateeus, Matai-ask, couple of others I can't figure out how to spell so as the way they're pronounced is clear.
-
Plenty of people may think the same of me & my accent as well :).
yep quite hard to understand sometimes Lyric...what with that strange Aussie accent mixed with the American drawl you have picked up.... :D....
Me I get sometimes get tango, tounge...but mostly wise butts call me thong
-
finnish call me Chevi, italians used to call me Kewi, aussies say Chewey.
-
Bones, Saw or Tex every once in awhile
-
I get "Trafals", "Truffelz" alot. I can automatically tell who is in my age range when they know how I got my game ID
-
I get Greasy, Greiz, Grez, Grizz, Greziziz, Greasy. Only one that remotely bothers me is Grizz as well quite frankly there is a Grizz and he is better than me >.< MUST ELIMINATE! He is better than me at just about everything except to my knowledge 1k out shots. I think I have that market cornered.
-
except to my knowledge 1k out shots.
Only becuase taters dont travel that far. He probably can make those too...
As for Tralfazz, faintly remember it relating to the Jetsons, and your avatar gives it away.
-
. Now back to the question why do you not speak on range? Only curious no Mic? Another reason maybe?
It's actually two reasons.
First, I don't speak English well. It's easy to assume I can, because I'm apparently able to write not that bad, but speaking is a whole different matter. When I type, you don't notice all the pauses when I have to rethink my wording, look up words in the dictionary, or have to completely edit my sentence due to horrible grammar.
When I speak, it's full of pauses, "ehmmm", aborted sentences and so on.
Second, because if I speak, everybody may think I'm listening too. :lol
Yes sounds silly... but I'm almost constantly afk (alt-tabbed) during my sorties. As soon as my wheels left the ground, I'm gone. When you see me coming to my base, I'm afk. Even when stalking buffs, or climbing just a few hundred feet before I drop down on that Sherman in my HurriD, I'm afk. Everytime I think I won't have to maneuver for the next 20 or 30 seconds, I'm alt-tabbed out. Yes, it's really that bad.
Text has the invaluable advantage of being still there when I come back. Your vox transmissions are gone.
Besides that, I'm also avoiding all that boring "social" stuff... "What's up? How are ya? How's the weather in Germany.. blah blah blah"
The only time I was regularly using Vox was in my year as a AHTC member.
-

<snip>
i remember one time logging in to a special event I think it was, one of the big scenario's. And I was climbing out with you and other's when I heard you talk on vox. I was confused :huh. I thought for sure someone else must be talking but your name kept popping up. :D

I was just moving my lips, the voice was provided by a ventriloquist :P

Hee - hee. Stories...
When I first started flying online (has it really been that long ago???) on another sim in another land, I chose the callsign elvene. After a few months of being called Evelyn and being apologized to for being shot down "Oh hon, I'm so sorry!" (As you might surmize, this was before voice comms) I was ready for a change.
But what really did it was when some other shmoe took the callsign of eleven.
I'd be in a fight, look down at the radio buffer, see "Kill of eleven by XXXXXX", and I'd be thinking I was dead but just hadn't had had the packets catch up to me yet.
So I changed to -Ghost instead. Then Ghastly on WWIIonline because every reasonable flavor of Ghost was taken ,and when I came here, through an administrative error on my part ended up not able to become Ghastly in the arena, so I chose Grue instead. I spent enough time in the day getting eaten by 'em.

Drunky remains my favorite. I also get Durski or simply Dursk a lot, because apparently the U and R are interchangeable.
Lusche I'm also alt tabbed a lot, but you put me to shame. I guess making all those pretty graphs and charts does take a lot of time.

Compiling data or putting together another "useless pie of the week" got me killed in AH more than once :lol

Zooney and once, (maybe his vision is bad) Ozone.
-
HOW many people call me BAR... its B.A.R. you evil little idiots!!! get it right :rofl
B.A.R. is tool long, too many syllables, but if you don't want to be called BAR, don't expect any check 6s from me. :D
FYI, if I can't figure out your name, you're probably not going to get a vox call from me.
-
I have actually started to press the button for many of the new names lately...by the time I can get it out of my mouth they are dead or they have just chosen stupid knob end names like one guy who I gave a couple of vox calls to but I would only check him by calling Anu...5 check it...did this twice and decided that with a name like that he must like them on his six so let him be....
-
I get Chief all the time.
Back when I flew as ddragon, I was double d alot. Had to change name cuz every time I heard double d, I would get distracted by the pictures in my mind.
:O
-
beckon-you, be seeing you,be...be...how do you pronounce your name?, Why do u have a girl's callsign if your a guy?, jerk, moron, friends just call me B. No, there is not a B in my name. It has no meaning what so ever. I used to play a MMORG called Dark Age of Camelot. Since I never felt like actually thinking of a name I would use their computer name generator. Becinhu popped up and thought it looked good. The game had emotes, one of which was "beckon". Guildies called me "beckon you" after that. It looked neat when "Becinhu beckons you". In here it evolved into "be seeing you". Just don't call me late for dinner.
-
Slimey... escargot... mollusc... lush... loooshey
but most players just ignore me, knowing I won't talk back ;)
You forgot slug, slimetrail, lunch, snaildude, and all the expletives I use when I know you are behind my buffs.
-
I don't know why, but when I see the name Becinhu I think peekachu  I know it makes no sense, but that's what comes to mind :lol
-
Actually, I think I get called Knife more often than Knite.
Usually get Knife, Nit, sometimes Kuh-Nif, and often "bait"

probably shoulda changed it in my first 2 weeks but I never bothered.. I think im stuck with it now.. last I checked, plain old "mike" was available too... BUT I LIKE MY PERKS! :)
-
I used to be called 1:00 A.M. :old:
Also, Lusche forgot Snailfeller. ;)
-
You don't wanna know.
Those with speech challenges often get it wrong by sounding like the 4 letter F bomb. Forkie once in a while. I got SPORK often from Hangtime and Animal years ago when ever I landed kills.
Sometimes I get asked where knife, spoon, plate, bowl, and cup are. You, know usual cutlery jibes.
-
Always wondered about Kvuo75. Has been a hard one to say for me over the years....
-
My handle is LawnDart... How hard is that to pronounce?? I get call LawnTard
Dart

TY now I know :aok

As hard as it maybe to believe I usually just get called SF, except by one dyslexic knit whom will go unnamed, that always vox's me as FS...
-

68DONKEY called me about 15 different names in 15 minutes. "left fazo, reverse him fanza, I'm hit, mayday I'm going down."
-
I don't know why when people see an extra "H" on the end they ussually seem to want to take out the important one in the middle.
Gosh, Goth, Gosth, are just a few of the many many clobbered up attempts.
If the H on the end bothers you, leave it off, call me Ghost, yeah just like Casper. (cept I have more attitude than casper ever had)
So Ghost H or just plain Ghost works, don't try to "lisp" it, or let that H on the end screw you up.
When in doubt, the H is silent.

Pretty much everyone calls me madda the way it's supposed to be pronounced, mah duh. Occasionally someone will call me mad dah, but I don't mind that at all. Still no doubt as to who they're talking to. I picked that when I first got to AW, they wouldn't let me take maddafinga, which is the handle I've always used since I first got a computer after high school. AW only allowed 5 or 6 characters though, so I shortened it. I figured it worked pretty well, since it was pretty unique and it was short enough to be like an actual name. Also there were no letters, easy to type, no vox at the time. Kept it ever since, I just happened to take a decade off after AW died, so I didn't need to use it.
-
<-----ForkFail and Noob, mostly from my squadies and its on purpose becuase I did something that went horribly wrong. :joystick:
-
2/3rds get it right (Steel) the other half (heh) say Steel-ee. Just used my stage name (rock band, not chippendale)
-
S-H-I-T-T-Y, but I don't think it's an accident. :headscratch:
-
People usually get mine right. Thunder-Egg. Short forms are Thunder, or Egg. Or toolshedder, bomb****, or as one former squaddie calls me "Thundaaaarrrr!" BlunderEGG & DunderEGG are the derogatory designations.
-
Let's see...uvi,us-vi,us6,usv1 and a few others. :D

Hmmm this thread is really about players' own names so nvm. :)

I actually had to look at your name twice to determine that it is not voltron. LOL
-
It's the most common mistake I hear and/or see. Voleron is another and CPTDell calls me Valron. lol
-
They call me, tater salad.
:rofl :rofl I saw that on comedy central stand up yesterday.
-
Sage, Sayjee, Sajay73, Sag, Sadj, 73, SA, Sa73 are those few that comes to my mind.. I think just S.A. is the one I prefer. If I get a ch6 call on vox I react to S.A. alot faster than any of the other stuttering attempts of pronouncements..
But I don't use vox myself, mainly by two reasons.
-One, I am not too good at vocal english since I am Norwegian.
-Two, I accidently tripped in my mic cord once and ripped the jackplug out of my laptop so hard that the mic won't stay in place properly after that.. :furious
I know some of my squaddies have mentioned that they miss me on vox, because of my funny accent.. :noid
I can't help that my tounge swells up in my mouth, and does all kinds of funny curls when I try to make certain pronounces.. :P :rofl
-
DungPoo & FlungPoo are my personal favorites.
