are the guns of the 4U installed offset like in the P47?
even tho the muzzles dont protrude past the leading edge?

     Yes they are installed offset in that manner.  I would imagine so that the ammunition belts can be fed.  I wonder if there are other reasons?  I bet there is an expert out there that can provide some additional insight.
