I saw this on the news earlier and I thought i'd share it with you guys. Thought it was a pretty good deed he done considering the situation he's in.

That's a nice story, I do have one question though. If you are flying a flag aren't you supposed to bring it down in bad weather?
I'm not trying to take anything away here I was always under the impression that the flag needed to be taken down at night or otherwise illuminated and taken down in bad weather, am I mistaken?

First a big :salute to the gentleman that saved the flag, more Americans should display his sense of patriotism.

Decided to copy and paste from the Flag Code...United States Code Title 36 Chapter 10
§174. Time and occasions for display
(a) Display on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in open; night display
It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
(b) Manner of hoisting
The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
(c) Inclement weather
The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed.
There is somewhat of a debate as to what constitutes properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. Some say that if there is enough ambient light to where the flag is visible and recognizable to the unaided eye but do not give a certain distance, there is no need for an artificial light source, others say that there needs to be some sort of light on it no matter what the conditions are. I for one believe there needs to be some form of artificial light that would illuminate the flag to the point where it is visible at the same distance it would be during daylight hours.

That man deserves better. He's homeless in his country and yet he has the heaviest of hearts to love his country so and so that he not only folds and saves the flag, he does it in the middle of a storm. :salute
