we've been broadcasting and watching stuff in widescreen for almost a decade now in yurp, yet I have to watch The Wire DVDs in clunky 4:3 on my (6yr old) 19:9 TV.
sort it out! :furious

I've never heard of 19:9. Isn't the standard ratio 16:9 or 16:10 for wide screen?
-
typo - done 2 60+h weeks in a row, cut me a little slack :)
edit: thats work btw not AH :D

Haha fair enough.
As far as basic cable goes, it's pretty shoddy over here in the states, anything decent seems to come from satellite but I'm not a big TV person myself honestly.
-
TV here in the States is shocking. It's as bad as the mobile phones. Until Apple released the iPhone on both continents it seemed the US cell devices were around 2 years behind the rest of the world.
The switch to digital in the US happened last year after being delayed and delayed - slowly programs are starting to change aspect ratio - but I can remember getting my SKY Digital in the UK about 6 years previous to that.

Uh, maybe try getting some different DVD's then. You do realize you can usually get both 'widescreen' (16:9) and 'standard' screen (4:3) formats in DVD these days?
-
The Wire is one of the all time best tv shows IMO. Good choice. I'd bet that if you looked you could find it in widescreen though, it's not so old that widescreen didn't exist when it was made.
-
Actually, it is not available in 'widescreen' format as it was broadcast in NTSC format which is 4:3 aspect ratio. It was originally broadcast in 2002.
-
Well poop, guess I'd have lost that bet.
Still a great show though.

One of the luxuries of not living on an island is that you can leave the house and do a lot of things outdoors, and if you don't like the weather you can travel someplace by land to somewhere with nicer weather.
-
They still make DVDs?
Got my 1st widescreen LED tv around Christmas time.
I hooked it up to a new LG 5.1 network system with a built in blu-ray player.
Its a whole new world.
I've never looked back.
You can stream alot of the old shows from Netflix etc.
I have my 6 and 10 year old boys watching and loving The Munsters, Addams Family, Flipper etc.
Why isn't there any color dad?

Huh? Bizarre comment. Just plain weird.

Hmm its not like you play aces high and have spent 3883 posts of time sitting in front of your computer. Right?
Unless that is a quote from one of the classic TV shows listed above or something.

Believe it or not, I play after I'm done with everything that can be done during daylight hours and I post in the forums when I have spare time at the office or don't feel like flying. The only time I watch television or play video games, is when I'm sick or if there is a movie I want to watch that I don't own on DVD or when I'm on business in a hotel and can't do anything else. The point was unless you're physically stuck in your house with nothing else to do, it shouldn't make any difference if a television program is digital, HD, widescreen or otherwise.
