Which do you think will win?
And will the Vuvuzelas kill your ears again? :D
P.S. i kinda wanna put the Fellowship of the Vuvuzela video from another thread in here but i think i may get skuzzified :D
-
Go Dutch!
-
Whomever 68Wooley picks to lose :D
-
pending the octopus prediction I say Spain.
Torres to actually score! :O
-
I'm going to guess Spain. I think they had to beat better teams to get there. But I don't really know.
-
Espana! Watching that midfield work the 4-5-1 is beautiful. They can pass on a team all day. Puyol, Pique, and Busquets (sp?) just take back possesion at will too. I picked the Dutch to win from the beginning, but Robben and Van Bommel really irritate me.

The world cup will be ours *noids*
-
I hope the Dutch remember that the best defense is offense unlike their neighbours to the east.

Netherland
-
Ticki-tacka, Spain wins 1-0. I'd love to see the Dutch pull an upset though.
-
It will be close but the Dutch will come out on top
-
I want Holland to win, I think and hope they will.
-
Ticki-tacka, Spain wins 1-0. I'd love to see the Dutch pull an upset though.
Why is that?
-
I vote for the Dutch. :aok
-
Why is that?
'Cos as a disinterested party it'd be a more exciting event if the underdog wins.
"Disinterested" may be a little inaccurate though. I've been watching the Dutch team throughout the tournament and now with the US out I'd prefer them to win. There's also the sentimental feeling that the Dutch should've won in '74 and that winning it now might be some sort of reward for all those years of great football.
Spain looks real tough though so I have to pick them to win 1-0. Gonna be fun though.

HOLLAND!

Spain is silky smooth, and ball control is the name of the game. Spain, 2-1.
-

The Octopus agrees. Spain it is!
-
Paul the Psychic Octopus predicts Spain to win the World Cup, Germany to win the play-off to take third place. As this ol' cat lives part-time in Spain, I'll go along with that.
Mind you, I think he may have been influenced by the Spanish love for octopus tapas. 'Si, senor, I vote for Spain, I friendly cephalapod, I say you gonna win, please no eat me, huh?'
Clever critters, are octopi.
;)
-
How badly will this bombshell effect the Dutch teams morale. Only time will tell.
-
I'm picking Orange.
-
I will be cheering for the Dutch but actually have a bit of cash on Spain, so either way it will be a great Sunday.
-
I choose....
Whichever country's box has the best, most succulent mussel in it... :noid
-
Since the U.S. got knocked out I've been pulling for the Dutch and will be during the final. But after watching the way Spain handled Germany in the semis (who I thought was the most dangerous team in the tournament, Muller or no Muller), it's hard to be confident.
-
I'm thinking Spain, but would prefer Netherlands.
-
The Spaniards do dearly love to party. When Spain won the semi last week, mi amigo bartender Cico lined up the drinks on the house all night, and the pueblo lit up with fireworks. Wish I could be there manana - win or lose, there's going to be one hell of a fiesta.
Vamos, Espana!
:rock

FC Barcelona 2 - Holland 0 :)

2-1

If Spain loses I an gonna eat lots of octopus ceviche to get even :).

SPAIN :x
-
That's one smart octopus.
-
Someone should kill it.
Its hunger has rigged the entire tourney!
-
Well done Spain.
But I really couldn't enjoy it. Terrible officiating even in the final.
I only saw the second half, but saw some terrible calls. Most notably when Robben had a 1v1 run and was obviously held at the box with no whistle.
Then in overtime, a Dutch penalty kick is obviously deflected off Spain's wall, goes just wide... and Spain gets a goal kick... Not 30s later Spain scores, the ball shouldn't have even been on the Dutch end for Pete's sake, it should have been a Dutch corner.. :furious
Either FIFA officiating is a total joke (no goal line camera, no video review, huge blown calls, completely subjective fouls, etc) or the games are fixed.
-
That's one smart octopus.
:lol I was a little hoping for penalties towards the end there. I think Spain deserved it overall though.
the ref did ok lots of kicking going on...
-
At least the ref kept it 11-11 most of the way. Could've easily tossed DeJong for the karate kick in the first half. Bad luck for the Dutch in the end, they fought hard enough to win.
-

Yeah, all he did was gift Spain a free goal kick that set up their goal.
C'mon even 12yr old rec league refs don't screw up calls like that, and if the head official didn't see the deflection off the Spanish wall (though I can't see how anyone could miss it.) The line judge sure as heck saw it.
Something's very fishy with the officiating. :noid
-
Something definitely wrong with the referee. He should have sent 2 dutch players off in the first few minutes. Good game, and the better team won.
-
The Spanish acting coach deserves a pay raise, I would say...

What a BS game. The game was pretty much played when the referee gave Robben a yellow card while he actually should have been giving him a penalty.
I'm convinced the referee was either corrupt or blind at some points.
Oh and PLEASE!! Get rid of Van Persie! He did absolutely nothing this World cup.

he got a card because he kicked the other guy. he should've been expelled, actually lots of players should've been out of the game.

Cry me a river. At least two of your butchers (Van Bommel & De Jong) should have been out of the game at the half time.
A well deserved defeat, IMHO, since the dutch team approached the match as a karate tournament, not as a FIFA World Cup Final.

It's a shame that a country well known for it's style playing football (style inherited by FC Barcelona and, ironically, Spain in it's current incarnation) played a World Cup Final like a Regional League match. The germans at least lost the semi final on one of the cleanest matches of the tournament, for which they deserve -IMHO- respect and recognisement. They never reverted to the kind of brute playing that was seen yesterday.
So yes, well deserved defeat.

gift a goal kick ? :lol don't make me laugh.
you can't just score from the other end of the field. The bad dutch defending led up to the goal not the referee's decision about a corner. A bad delivery from a corner can lead to an instant counter attack.
I would give robben a yellow card too just for looking at me ! Call it karma for conning 100's of referee's every time he goes to ground so easily.
-
Well it wasn't clean, their were several blown calls on each side, the players acting could have been better, but I enjoyed watching the game.
Spain

I've seen it done a few times, when I played Soccer, in the WC and in the Premier League. Goalies scoring on their goal kicks.

ok let me rephrase, When everyone is concentrating and in their correct positions. (Other keeper included) you can't score from a goal kick.
Only if the defenders let it bounce and the striker manages to get in on it. This is what we call "route1" football that happens a lot in Sunday league, the old hoof it up the pitch and hope the other team can't deal with it.

<emerges from sleep with a monumental hangover>
Viva Espana, what a party! Well done, amigos, football won, not brawling. And here's to the hosts, South Africa, for a great job all round.
<hoists glass>
Cheers!

On a Goal Kick, the ball is in play upon leaving the Goal Area. In fact, not even two years ago a goalkeeper timed the bounce wrong and a goalie scored a goal as the ball bounced over the opposing goalkeeper.
-
If I'm not mistaken, the opposing goalie or any other player has to touch the ball first if the goal is to count.
-

Goal kicks are now (have been for 13 years) direct and therefore do not need to touch the opposing keeper. As a keeper, I generally laugh when they are put on target. It reminds me of when people immediately take a shot from center field when play is started. Even if I'm out of position, there's a good deal of time to get back into the net to make a save, no matter where it is put.
Regarding the yesterday's match, it was absolutely pathetic. (In my mind) Far too much whining, far too many cards. The dutch did play dirty, which was disappointing. However, it sure wasn't a clean game on the other side of the ball either. All in all, the most disappointing final I've watching in a long time.
What it comes down to is that Octopus has one crazy talent. :)
-
Congrats to Spain! At least it goes to a Country who has never won it. Was a very badly(dirty) played game by both teams. Record for most penalties. Non calls were a big thing too.

That's a throw-in actually. Hardly ever see that one though.
But the point being made here is the deflection off the Dutch free kick that should have led to a corner, and the then Spain scored immediately following the (incorrect) goal kick. Can't make too big a case for that I'm afraid, as much as I was rooting for the Dutch. It's a 90 minute game (or 120 in yesterday's case) and the bad calls should hopefully even out. Ineista wasn't really marked on the play and that's on the Dutch defenders, not the ref.
