Zonealarm is great, gives you the same protection as Norton, but at the easily digestible price of zero dollars, while Norton will run you upwards of $70.

Tiny personal firewall costs nothing and gives 10x more options to configure the firewall than Zonealarm. You can open and close port by port if you want - ZA has that only in the paid Pro version.

Sygate Personal Firewall is free and it automatically alt-tabs you to the desktop when AH versions change so you can give it permision to access the internet. With zonealarm I would have to keep resetting my pc untill it would leave an entry on the list I could give permision.

DES, can you give a program access prior to running it?

Also, does anyone have links to articles comparing these products to zonealarm and norton?

Thanks!

I don't see a way to give access prior to launch. I've always just launched a program and sygate minimized it to the taskbar and put up a box to give permision. I've not had a program lock my pc yet and I play a lot of different games over the internet.

Tiny Personal FW lets you configure access rules also beforehand. You just click on 'create new rule' give the options for access you want, choose the program you want the rule to handle and youre done.

Ammo are you sure you didn't download the pro version? I seem to remember when you first install there was an option where you had to put personal use also. It's a while since I installed so I don't remember the step by step but it is free if you have the right version.

I'm going to give it a try, see if I prefer it to Zonealarm.
