prompted by a recent discussion about bailed pilots being used as FACs ...
radios were fitted to aircraft, not carried by pilots so once you bail you should lose the ability to use radio/text/check6 until you are in the tower again.
:)

maybe in FSO?

I was thinking across the board.

Actually this would remove the last reason to ever shoot anyone in a chute.
And for that reason I'd agree with it.
Not that some wouldn't use TS or Vent to get around it.
-
well a bailed pilot would have radio.(i forgot what you called sorry) to radio for help :aok
then why would you need to shoot people in there chutes if they cant do the only the useful for

really, WWII pilots had portable radios? what radios did they use? :headscratch:
I trained on a larkspur A41 field set which was heavy and bulky, and that was a '50s design. find it hard to believe there was something way smaller and lighter with better range available in the '30s/'40s ...

Smoke signals tend to drift too much to be read properly.

If you're thinking about the BC-611 portable handset, that was U.S. infantry issued only, and it had a short range.
Otherwise things like this would have to be lugged around.

His information is based more on fantasy than fact so don't look too much into him. :)

Everyone knows they had iPhones back then. They just kept the technology a secret until they sold it to Jobs.

That scene in saving private ryan when the captain is talking on a small portable radio (ok was about the size of a shoe box), seen it on several other movies, i Believe it had a range of a couple of miles. was that fantasy too?
As for the people in chutes that go all the way to the ground, is it really that common? I only ask because I see one maybe once a month, if that. If it happens rarely, then why make a big deal out of it?
