RIP Captain Phil
:salute
Tonight the Discovery Channel will air a two-hour special dedicated to the life and times of Cornelia Marie Captain Phil Harris who died of a stroke earlier this year.

I saw only a regular one hour show, followed by the "After the Catch" show with a tribute. And now they're advertising a 2 hour special for Phil next week.
-
Don't know much about the guy, but seems like alcohol and nicotine was a major part of the daily diet. Your body is like an engine, you have to put good stuff in it for it and run it regularly for it to have a chance of lasting.

After the catch last night was great, funny stories IMO.

I heard over the weekend about his last show and all, thought he was just leaving the boat due to health issues, didn't know he passed.

Yea I remember an article several months ago during crab season about how he died during filming for this year's Deadliest Catch. I was wondering how discovery was going to go about it. It's a shame, because he is one of the few guys I liked on that show when I used to watch it.
It's also a strange fate, being that had discovery never made deadliest catch, the only people who would have known of his passing would be crew, friends, and family. Now, he will be mourned by thousands.

amazes me that he was only 53, the Hillstrand brothers are still under 50 I believe, so is Sig and edgar.
Phil Harris will defiantly be one man I wished I met in life.

Im sure if you had his job you'd fill your body with nicotine and alcohol

lol loved the "Maid" for his trailer lol man Phil sounded like the salt of the earth kinda person to me, he will be sorely missed
And Discovery is doing a excellent job with handling his passing, the last scene with Phil was very touching, he loved his boys

I always liked Phil. It was painful to watch what his sons went thru, but you also saw them make a lot of good decisions at an important milestone in their lives. After The Catch was very good. It was like going to a wake for a old friend.

I cannot remmenber if it was the cornellia marie or Maverick i went on, i fished with my daD in law about 8 or 9yrs back sold some herring to the boat. but neway while we were waiting in line a fellow herring skiff had too much herring on one side of their boat and when another boat came chuggin by the waves made the boat w too much fish on one side keel over n started filling with water instantly, everyone was in a state of shock a big ol boat swamping in fronta our eyes. the boat swamped the capt stayed w it until it was totally submerged lol was silly looking. but ina way it was dangerous. after they got evry1 on board the maverick or cornellia, onea the deckhands threw a anchor in water and used the crane n pulled the herring fishermans boat outta the water LOL, they towed that swamped boat home to nearest village n fixed it, next day the swamper was back at fishing fer herring LOL.

No doubt...
Phil Harris led a hard and rough life...by his own choosing...
An independent man who never held his hand out asking for anything...and that is the lesson he tried to teach his kids...
Phil Harris to his son Jake (paraphrased:
"You could be a astronaut if you wanted to, but your not...your on a crab boat...and you have a job to do...and your just another deckhand right now..."
Meanwhile 20 foot waves were crashing over the bow and the crew was on a 20 hour Opie grind...
God bless Captain Phil

Josh has really grown...remember he came on the boat after Jake...
Josh will be Captain of the Cornelia Maria next season...count on it...
His composure and demeanor through his fathers illness would make any parent proud...
:salute Josh Harris
And millions of people will be praying and pulling for him to succeed...

Absolutely not happening. Josh only has a few years on the boat period. He is nowhere near experienced enough to run it and won't even be considered.

Yeah - when Andy & Johnathan were talking about Mike taking over the Time Bandit, they were mentioning years when it came to his captains apprenticeship. I saw an interview with Johnathan Hilstrand and he mentioned one of Phil's great worries was that he didn't prepare his sons sufficiently to take over from him

It will be years before Josh is ready to captain a boat, and a lot longer for Jake.
They may own Phil's part of the boat, they may even buy Cornelia Marie Devlin out of her half, if she wants to sell.
Jonathan, Andy, and Sig will be looking over those boys, for quite some time. And that's a good thing. I'm sure they'll be helping them find a captain to take the boat for a while.

This guy was one of the reasons I kept watching the show, he was just such a cool guy....R.I.P Captain Phil!

Every week, they replay last weeks show first, then the current show. They don't replay the "After the Catch" episode from the previous week.

Josh will run the boat...
His first year he will have a co-captain...hopefully not Murray as he is lackluster...
The perfect script would be the Hillstrand brothers coming over to guide Josh...Andy for Kings, and Johnathan for the Opies...
CM has Freddie as DB...one of the best in the business...Josh can leave the deck to Freddie...bump his share...lean on him...
All Josh has to do is to place himself with the right mentor and he will get 'it' and get it quick...and he is not stupid...he knows his limitations...
Josh will run this boat mark my words...it might take a couple of years but the kid has it...
