I'm going from a Viper 770 TNT Nvidia 32 meg card to a GAINWARD CARDEXPERT GEFORCE3 TI 200 TITANIUM TV-OUT 64MB DDR (RETAIL).
I read in an earlier post this is a good card? I get around 30-40 FPS on average w/the TNT. I'm hoping this will amke my gaming so much better. Will it?

The answer is "that depends". If you provide the complete details about the rest of your system, along with your OS version and what settings you run AH at, we can probably give you a better idea.

Oh yea..oops :)

I would think that should be capable of similar FPS but running at 1600 res.
-
batdog .. Please let me know, as I have the same card and I am planning on buying the same card as you.

1600 resolution huh...wow. Okies Sprint will do.

The answer is: YES!
You will see a HUGE difference, you will be able to run 1600x1200 at 32bit NO SWEAT.
-
He could, but one can ask why would he want to?
At least I prefer to have fps topped out regardless of the situation (smoke, explosions etc..)
Ti200 will be burdened at 1600x1200 and produce probably around 50-60 fps.
1280x1024x32 or lower in 19" screen is quite enough - at least for me.
-
If my Geforce 2 GTS 32MB runs 1600x1200x32bit just fine, then the Ti200 will NOT be burdened at 1600x1200 it has enough bandwidth to push AH at that resolution.
Why would he want to? Because it looks better, because the sharpness helps gameplay, and because he CAN.

I've wondered if upping to a nice GeoForce 3 Ti500, the cat's bellybutton of video cards (according to Tom's Hardware) would help my P3 550 along a bit faster.
My Voodoo 5500 is only doing about 12 to 17 in the Main Arena, when the Main isnt warping/overloaded.
But, I suspect the Voodoo would generate better numbers on a faster system.
Any way of taking a current system, replacing the motherboard and CPU and the system load up ok? Or are we talking total reinstall to have it all work right?
-
With my Gainward GF3 I run AH at 1600x1200 in 32 bit and it stays steady at 75fps. Drops a bit around smoke, but still smooth.
-
LePaul,
I recomend you stay with your Voodoo 5 5500 and with the price of a Ti500, upgrade the rest of your system. You will be better of that way. You get a nice Abit motherboard, Athlon XP, and DDR ram for the price of a Geforce3 Ti500.
-
Batdog, I have about the same FPS, a little higher, as your 32Mb card running 1600x1200 with 32 bit colors with the Ti200 card. It’s not over clocked either. I also have about the same system with the exception of 128Mb more RAM and running ME.
Hope this helps some.

Thanks, Animal
There is a computer show this weekend, Im tempted to grab a motherboard and CPU, but suspect it would be a full install? I dont recall ever getting away with replacing a motherboard and CPU from under an OS and having some major problems afterward.
-
Hey Paul, you really should do a new installation of the OS with a mobo/cpu upgrade. Think of it as an opportunity to get your system really lean and fast, with no baggage. Like a B-D5 Jet :)
-
LOL
Man, I won't go there :)
P.S. My BD-5 is up for sale.
-
I kinda hate to hear that... maybe you could trade it for a powered chute? Or a gyro copter?
-
I really would *not* get a GF3 Ti200. Get a good ole regular GF3 or GF3Ti500. Or if you cannot afford either of those, go with the GF2 Ultra, it has faster memory speed than the Ti200 and its cheaper.
On my old 1.2 Tbird, I was running a GF2 Ultra. I bought a Ti200 for a friend, and tested it out. I got the same fps with my ultra.

are you crazy Nimitz?
The Geforce3 Ti200 is the same toejam as a regular Geforce 3, only a bit underclocked. In fact, most 3 Ti200 overclock to higher speeds than a regular Geforce 3.
Its MUCH, MUCH faster than a Geforce 2 Ultra.
I think you may be confusing it with the Geforce2 Ti200, wich is about the same speed as a geforce pro.

Hi Batdog,
I just put in a GF3 Ti500 (Visiontek Xtasy) into my 1.2 gig HP Pavilion... Man, is it nice. Frame rates jumped from 26 (Max) to 55 (Min). The higher framerate really does help in the game too, aiming is much easier now.
Btw, I had to do some rather drastic and barbaric chassis modification to get mine to fit into the AGP slot... you might want to check out the physical dimensions first.
[Edit: Oh yeah, I'm running at 1600x1200 now too. Really nice card.

Animal,
Neg, I tested the GF3 Ti200 on my 1.2 TBird and did not gain any performance over my GF2 Ultra *shrug*

Okay. I upgraded to a GAINWARD CARDEXPERT GEFORCE3 TI 200 TITANIUM TV-OUT 64MB DDR (RETAIL).
I now have 65-80FPS depending on whats around me. In heavy smoke 30-40ish so far.
Its been a massive improvement over what I had before. I'm running at 1024 by 768. My darn monitor is older so it wont handle anything higher :(
I'm happy.. like I said it went from the mid 30's to 65-80ish. In smoke 15's to 30-40's.

Don’t know what to tell ya on the monitor bat, they’re still expensive as all hell. I was lucky enough that mine went out about 2/3 weeks after I got my Ti200. Damn the bad luck arggggg!
But, congrats on the card and the improvement. :)

nimitz, the advantage in the GF3 Ti 200 over the GF2 Ultra is that you get all the new GF3 technology that takes advantage of the fancy new DX 8 features - so in a game like AH, your performance is understandably similar, but in some of the newer games, the GF3 will really shine.
Because the Ti cards use cheaper technology, you can still get a GF3 Ti 200 for a couple bucks less than a GF2 Ultra... and find one much easier :)
-
I just read about the new Geforce 3 Ti2 128MB ..less than $200. 128 mb ... hmmm. Think I'm going to order one of them puppies.

i also read about them but you better wait for reviews. still dont know if 128 is excessive, maybe it wont make any difference. In fact, they may even use slower ram to compensate for the price...
