Title: AoM Challenge
Post by: grizz441 on July 21, 2010, 12:17:43 PM
Army of Muppets hereby officially challenge the self proclaimed 'experten worldwide' wing, DFC, of The Few, to a year long battle of skill in the dueling arena.

Challenge:
50 squadron duels over the course of Winter '10 to Winter '11.  2 Squadron duel dates consisting of 10 duels and 10 pilot min for each side.  6 Squadron duel dates consisting of 5 duels and 8 pilot min for each side.  Loser of previous fight picks next ride.  All fights done at low altitude side bases in DA.  Results are recorded and whomever scores 26 victories first is declared the winner.  Rules and guidelines are negotiable.

You guys can also use members from your minor league squad "The Few" if you wish, but please give us 24 hour notice of any promotional transactions of your members to the DFC Squadron.

Whaddya say...up for the challenge?  Maybe so maybe no?  We'll be waiting.

Grizz,

Any Odds, a precentage on the gate, a name change for the proceding year? SHawk's "Manplesr" duel comes to mind.

Steve once told the POW if we change our squad name to "Nancy Pants Sissy Boys" he will join our squad in a heart beat. He was attempting to help us understand what haveing a real pair of stones in a cartoon game means.

Tea Party anyone? The tea will be "Steve's Macho Blend" while the crumpets are "O'de Sqweeker".....

Title: Re: AoM Challenge
Post by: grizz441 on July 21, 2010, 02:53:48 PM
Everybody needs to just relax and do some simple math.  In my OP I said 2 10 man duels of 10 duels ea...and 6 duels 8 man ea over that course of the year.  That's 8 scheduled duels over the course of a year.  Not that difficult to get in and we don't need to do it !This Sunday!

Kazaa, we want these fights to be 8 player mins.  6 is okay for SDL but favors a squad that is top heavy but has an empty cupboard after that.  You guys stand a chance 6v6.  8v8 and beyond you guys don't have a prayer.

Ok, call up some members from the few then.  Min pilot guidelines stand, as this is a squadron duel and should be representative of the two squadrons, not the 6 best of each.

There are two wings for a reason. DFC are the serious DA players.
The people you'd enjoy having a fight of this magnitude versus.
I'm not sure why you're so insistent on fighting vs casual gv players etc..

I'm sure you'd have no trouble dispatching the casual sticks of the main wing. They would really not care though. If that's what you want to prove then, we can just do this:

Congratulations to the Muppets, you are the best at toonplanes!!!

In the end you want to beat the guys who actually care that you beat them at vidyagame duels no?

Fellas, fellas, this is a good natured challenge.  All of the posts in this thread and the other threads leading up to this point have been friendly and good-natured punctuated with smileys, etc.etc.  Even the 200 banter last night was in good fun for everyone involved and nobody left with their feelings hurt.  Let’s keep it that way.  K?  K.

Now brang it….

All you guys have to do is recruit a few more excellent sticks from other squads and then fight us, beat us and brag about it and make little insinuations all over the BBS for weeks afterward – you know how to do that, you did it with the TJ and Grizz matchup.  :D

I didn't realize The Few was a tank squad.

I'm gonna try to be the voice of reason (instead my usual voice of insanity  :aok )

Seems to me like you just keep coming up with reasons not to fight the DFC (the guys who are actually pure dogfighters). If you refuse to recognize that these are two separate wings then it's not The Few's problem.

AoM is a pure dogfighter squad. The FEW DFC wing is the same, so fight them if you want a nice matchup. You just seem to be trying to play the angles here. I don't believe you're dumb- not to realize that these are two seperate wings.  The DFC is the wing that's up for these sort of challenges.. you can't really drag people who aren't up for it into things.

I know AoM is the best individually skilled squad that The Few DFC could face (despite neither of us being sdl champs but that's a different game). So I don't know what your problem of facing the DFC? What are you tryuing to prove, that you have better depth than us? While avoiding the fact that we might have the better top tier sticks?

I'm not gonna disagree that you have more depth
you have been around way longer as a pure dogfighters squadron.. meanwhile the few has revolved around recruiting people from a significantly smaller player pool until recently. Squads change and evolve.. times change. The Few DFC is the evolution of the few.

and lets put things into perspective here, this is a computer game.. there's no monetary reward and any psychological rewards are on the slim side. It's most definitely detrimental to the physical side of life!(seated sedentary activity not so good)   :lol

So, the only thing you're gonna get out of it is a bit of fun and excitement.. the best way to go about it is to fight the best that's on offer. That'd be the few DFC, and for the few it'd be the Muppets (excluding ink  :D)..

(unless  you're embarrassing enough to hang a videogame koth plaque on the wall ala bruv119 and kazaa  :neener:)

anyways, enough instigation and mediation from me.
sort thing amongst yourselves now kids, and have fun!  :airplane:  :salute

Actually, the object is to make each other sharper, you know, steel on steel.  Nyuck, nyuck.

BTW, I don't know why you think anyone is "showing what big men they are" by doing this.  Is that how you think?  Is that what you are hoping to get out of this game?

This is a game where the object is to play against each other and in this game the playing is a type of fighting.  We want to play with other guys that like to play like we do.  It makes it more fun and gets the blood pumping a little more when you make it public and talk a little trash to put some bragging rights or psychological capital on the line.  That's all. K? K.

Multi winged squadrons should be able to man 10 pilots 2 times a year.  If anyone should be trying to milk the min pilot constraints down, it should be us.  Btw, The muppets and few are tied at 2 for TOC championships.

Buster, what are the odds for either squadron winning? I'm sure it's going to be very close.

3 to 1 the AOM walks over DFC in 70% of the matchups.
2 to 1 Grizz gets targeted for multy teaming at some point because of his 99% on mark gunnery.
10 to 1 DFC wins overall.

All bets to be paid in:   :t ....Baby Seal Numpte Whackers.... :t

 ...Pink Fuzzy Bunny Slippers... Awards to anyone who shows up on either side in the DA just once for a matchup.

Dog Fighters Club is made up of a lot more folks then AoM I believe which was why I was asking.

Since the Few is an RAF based bunch, I suppose DFC makes some sense as the sign of an accomplished vet RAF pilot tended to be DFC after their name, ie; F/L Johnny Johnson DFC.

Not that a squadron ever had DFC behind their name.

Yeah, this lol?

Welcome to the Squad Dueling League

This league is designed in part to encourage friendly competitive game play between squads. Currently the Squad Dueling League (SDL) has three managing members, daddog, hammer, and trotter. Decisions by any of the three are final and not open for debate. Squads may be dismissed from the league at any time for any one or any combination of the following:
- Members whose intent is to insult other members
- Members whose intent is to discredit HTC or Aces High
- Members whose intent is to frustrate other players
- Members who continually complain or whine

SDL will not run a permanent ladder, but we may have ladder tournaments within our league.
SDL will not keep track of any stastics beyond a thread that posts wins and losses for each squad.
SDL encourages squads to track their own results in duels. Examples of squad stats can be found here.
http://www.332nd.org/dogs/daddog/Squad%20Stats08.htm
and
http://www.jg11.org/fsokillboard/fsokillboard.htm

The rules listed below are relatively lax because some rules or conditions that are common to 1 VS 1 or 2 VS 1 ladders are easily verified. This is not always the case with squad VS squad duels.

Rules for Squad Duels
- Squads must participate in a duel at least twice every 6 months.
- Squads must post an AAR after the duel in the private SDL forum. AAR’s maybe brief, or detailed. Ideally members are looking for constructive criticism or simply encouraging remarks about the duel.
-For the purposes of the Squad Dueling League, a squad is defined as the 32 individuals listed in any single Main Arena squad roster on the HTC Squads Page.  Multiple wings of the same name are also permitted to take part.
-As part of the challenge, the challenging CO will post his squad roster. The challenged CO will post his roster as part of the acceptance. Changes to these rosters must be agreed upon by both CO's.
- Squads must have at least 6 participates to duel
- Squads may more than 6 in a duel so long as both squads agree on the number.
- Squads must remain within icon range of fellow squad mates prior to the merge.
- Duel may not start (aircraft combat maneuvers) until the first 2 opposing planes come into icon range of each other.
- Squads will accept or decline all duels on this forum. An example subject title would be
332nd Flying Mongrels Challenges JG11
The challenge is accepted or declined in the thread. If accepted, any and all AAR’s are posted in that thread. C.O.’s and X.O.’s may cut and paste AAR’s from their squadies to satisfy the AAR requirement.
- All merges will be hot
- Fuel and load out will be up to each squad
- Prior to the duel Squads will decide in the challenge thread:
a) Date and time
b) Number of participants on each side
c) Merge altitude
d) Aircraft to be used
e) Any other considerations
- All duels will be the best of 5 matches.
- If a squad ups the wrong AC the round is done over
- We encourage any results from squad duels to be posted in the private Squad Dueling League O’Club forum.

Generalities
As squads become more comfortable with each other, rules for their duels may give one squad alt advantages, numbers advantages, or other criteria, but it is strongly suggested any changes like those mentioned are not employed till squads have dueled each other at least once.
Squads are welcome to ‘scrimmage’, (quick duels) each other at any time or any place. Scrimmage’s are not official and do not have to be recorded in this forum. Scrimmages may employ all the rules of a regular duel, but they are not official and do not count as a win or loss.
Remember the idea of the SDL is for squads to compete in friendly game play. We all want to win, but that never should be paramount.
For now duels will take place in the Dueling Arena. Should squads wish to have their duels in the Special Events Arena arraignments can be made for that.

Winning is important to me, but what brings me real joy is the experience of being fully engaged in whatever I’m doing. – Phil Jackson

These?  Perhaps you could explain to me why we would not be able to arrange that 2-3 of our fights be credited towards SDL standings as well.

If it's the 'loser picks next ride thing' I'm sure we'd be able to prearrange the SDL planes in advance for some of the fights.  There would be no problem there from AoMs side.

It's Ack-Ack's turn now!  :neener:
(I think he's just bitter that he won't be able to take part in the most epic aces high battle since neither squad would have him- discuss!)

Well, first off, I don't think a squadron like The Few would appeal to me, don't know exactly what it is, there are some nice members but you guys just seem to lack something.  As for the Muppets, I was invited a few years ago to join, around the same time the Blue Knights asked me as well but I had to respectfully decline because I'm a Raider and will be one until I decide to hang up the flight helmet.

If this is what you call "my turn", please, next time try and bring your A game or at least put some effort into it.

anyway, enough of the hijack and back to your regularly scheduled thread.

If this is the case why didn't you guys just say so?   :headscratch:  That actually makes sense.

Obviously I don't know if The Few took DFC as a jab or representative of the actual RAF DFC.

If that's the issue, it would be easy enough to solve.  Below is the uniform badge representing the Distinguished Flying Cross below RAF wings on a pilot's tunic.

I'd imagine someone could make that badge easy enough and put it in the sig of the Few who belong to the 'Vet' part of the wing.  It looks better then just seeing DFC anyway :)

I do know that as an RAF history fan, my first thought when I saw DFC with The Few was Distinguished Flying Cross, not Dog Fighters Club.

The running joke among the RAF pilots was that in a room full of vets, it always seemed that the room was slanted due to all the DFCs

Actually if you boil all this down to basics it seems AOM reckon DFC will give AOM a beating 6v6 and DFC reckon AOM will give them a kicking 10 v10.

I wonder if anyone can see a pottential compromise here in the spirit of arrangeing a fun ongoing tournament without anyone having to repeatedly get out of their pram  ;)

Anyway enough of this idle specualtion I have casual; GVing to attend to  :neener:

:D :D :D To show how serious this all is.

Not at all, the intent for wanting it to be 8 or more guys is to make sure the fights are representative of the two squadrons.  A squadron is group of 32 pilots (In the few's case it is a bit more), and the duels should be a representation of squadron strength, not Bruv, Kazaa, and Drbone vs Kappa, grizz, sunsfan, etc.  AoM challenged The Few DFC, so that's what the fight should be.  6v6 isn't terribly low, but then again, it isn't very representative of actual squadron strength either.  Don't get me wrong, you guys are incredibly talented at the top, but that isn't the point.  What I find to be humorous is The Few wanting to limit the pilots that fight, as if they don't want some of their members to participate.  The Muppets will put up any member to fight these fights.  I guess its just a confidence we have in all of our guys, call it what you will.

We made the challenge, we set the terms of the challenge. It is up to The Few to accept or decline.  Period.

We left plenty of other parameters up for negotiation but we would like to maintain the requirement for the number of participants.  In addition to the reasons that Grizz mentioned, another reason we want to keep the numbers high is because we would like to include as many of our people as possible without making distinctions between who is "qualified" and who isn't.  That just causes problems among members and we Muppets are always in perfect harmony and strive to maintain our harmony at every juncture. :D

Just out of curiousity.  Any reason this wasn't done via PM to begin with?  It sure seems to have become much more of a "look at me!" thread, then anything else.

If this was really about wanting to test the 'best' of each squad against each other, it could have been handled much differently

Interpret it however u wish. And also feel free to not click on the thread. In addition to the most salient reason that Grizz mentioned, this is a squad matter where multiple people may want to add their input. A BBS is the perfect venue for this type of discussion and as long as we stay within the rules I can't see what the problem is.

We have some things to work out here. Go crash a free P-38 and post screenshots of it so you can have your "look at me thread".  :D (you know I love ya, Corky).

It's time to step down from the pedestal and stop demanding like 5 year old spoilt-brats. The DFC wing of The Few, the one active for 2 weeks, the one with 13 members, the one you have gone out of your way to challenge have accepted. We will try to bring as many of our 13 members as possible on the day, frankly it's now time to put up or shut up. I find it funny that you, the Muppets with a player base of 28 are demanding 10 pilot minimum when you have an extremely hard time fielding 6 players in an given SDL match. :rofl

Not only that but people need to take the 'tough guy' attitudes down a notch. When I try to ask someone a simple question on 200 (who happens to be DFC) and get greeted by a reply that screams "I'M GOING TO OWN YOU MUPPET, BACK OFF", it becomes just plain annoying. Especially since until that moment we had been nothing but cordial to each other in game. And I'm not saying that this ridiculous attitude is only going one way either.

I DA to improve my flying, nothing more. I'm participating in this to be apart of probably the most highly skilled mass duel in AH history(Dogfighting wise). But if it continues down this path I'll probably let others fill my spot because I can really do without the macho, internet tough guy atmosphere.

My silly silly Kazaa...

It's time to step down from the pedestal and stop demanding like 5 year old spoilt-brats. The DFC wing of The Few, the one active for 2 weeks, the one with 13 members, the one you have gone out of your way to challenge have accepted. Well you apparently have gathered up 4 members since yesterday...
Grizz, The Few DFC only have around 9 members, so we're going to have to keep all fights lower then 10.
So I don't see what the trouble is.  Just promote some from your other wing.

frankly it's now time to put up or shut up.

Interesting take.  The challenge issued was for 8 dates in the next 12 months with bragging rights on the line.  If you can't get 8 pilots to show up for an event like this then you guys have no heart.

I find it funny that you, the Muppets with a player base of 28 are demanding 10 pilot minimum when you have an extremely hard time fielding 6 players in an given SDL match. :rofl

Min pilot guidelines stand.  This Sunday won't work for us, but the next Sunday most likely will, we'll let you know.  Depending on how many show, we should fight a 10 duel set or a 5 duel set.  (If 8 show we will fight a 5 duel set versus if 10 show we will go ahead and fight a 10 duel set) Each individual fight counts as a fight.  First to 26 victories over next year wins.  Sound good?

The original terms of the duel have been the same since the beginning.  What is so hard for you to understand?  I don't understand why you won't fight us 10v10 and 8v8.  We said you can bring over members from your other wing or recruit members from other squads if you can't fill all of the spots.

We are asking for 2 fights over the next year that are 10 pilot min.  A multi-winged squadron can't get 10 pilots to fight on 2 prearranged days within a 365 day window?  Give me a break.

I believe the challenge was to the few. If you feel the need to use members outside your squad and not your other wing, well that is between you and the rest of your squad.

As far as our 28 or whatever number squad that has trouble fielding more than 6 in sdl,  I'll alone take responsibility. We may have that number on roster but more than half are not active and I keep them on the roster out of respect should they ever return.

I believe a step back is in order here from the defense posture as this whole thread was created in the desire to pursue fun. Lets keep it that way and enjoy the good fights I'm sure that will result.

6 of 27 players for AOM has not played in this tour leaving 21 active players so that's a lot less then half your members less then 25% actually

In fairness, I should clarify this statement.  This was only an allusion to the statement that I made earlier in this thread (quoted below for reference) which was a good-natured jab and kind of a running joke (Karaya got it).  I don't want to start rumors or insinuate that The Few uses players from other squads in the SDL or anything like that - this is not what I meant.

All you guys have to do is recruit a few more excellent sticks from other squads and then fight us, beat us and brag about it and make little insinuations all over the BBS for weeks afterward – you know how to do that, you did it with the TJ and Grizz matchup.  :D

As the issuer of the challenge, I find it only appropriate to eat some crow and give an update on the challenge that The Army of Muppets issued versus The Few: DFC.  After the first 5 fights (10v10), The Few: DFC fought admirably and lead AoM 3-2.  Results will be updated on AoM's homepage as we keep track of the tallies there.  Subsequent updates will be given for future matches involving this epic battle, regardless of outcome.  That is all for now :)

seriously perdweeb I don't know where all of this pent up lust has come from.

A few weeks ago Dutchguy rage quit on two different occasions after getting his bottom spanked.  Have you guys started some sort of vendetta to discredit us or ankle hump your way to get attention?

You seem to believe that you are worthy of telling your superior players how they should act or behave in game and I'd like to know how in the world you've reached this conclusion.  It is pathetic and kazaa has told you personally to hush so how about it?

Until you are man enough to accept a squadron challenge I appreciate you will stay out of any threads that relate to either of my squadrons.

Army of Muppets hereby officially challenge the self proclaimed 'experten worldwide' wing, DFC, of The Few, to a year long battle of skill in the dueling arena.

You guys can also use members from your minor league squad "The Few" if you wish, but please give us 24 hour notice of any promotional transactions of your members to the DFC Squadron.

I was using Grizz's terms. You 'superior pilots' can talk smack when I say it but not to Grizz.

And yes I hump ankles for attention. And it is obviously working.

The DFC has only 12 members do the math we wouldn't be able to pull 6 for one night much less a year duel.  The Few is all European players from the start and still is with only 22 members.  Add them together you get 34 European's/Americans(which all are in DFC) v.s. 29 of AOM.  So The Few has 2 more then the alloted 32 man squad big whoop 2.  I have been flying with The Few for 2 months or so and theres about 5 or 6 in The Few that I haven't even seen or talked to, so all are not active which brings us well below the 32 man total squad definition.  Not that it matters to you, this was directed from your comments so the community would have the truth on our numbers.  Perdweeb your better then this  :salute
