Title: New Computer
Post by: Atticus4 on July 22, 2010, 09:02:04 AM
Would appreciate the input before I take the plunge.  Have been reading this forum for a few months and here's where I think I'm at.  One specific question as well, is the GTX 480 worth the approximate extra $160 vs. the GTX 470?

Purpose of new computer:  run AH at max settings and other household/school type of stuff.
Price Range:  This is about as high as I want to go--maybe a little more to accomplish the purpose.
Computer knowledge:  zero or a little less.

Thanks for your insight.

I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.  Do you need the 480 to run AH full bore, no.  The 470 would be just fine.

For some reason, 1600+ seems a bit over-priced to me.

You might want to contact TilDeath to crunch some numbers with him.

Skuzzy's observations in this forum about power supplies led me to get the SeaSonic X750 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087) for my recent build.  Sixty-two amps on the twelve-volt rail!   :rock
