If I leave the 'effects' on default, then the siren, my engine, and other players fire is way too loud. If I turn it down, I can't hear my own gunfire, or other engines or all that good stuff helpful for GV'ing.
I wish for the return of the individual sound volumes.
-
Are you wanting an advanced sound control panel?
I'm not holding my breath but it would stop me from having to create custom sounds.
-
i think we should just bring back the old sound preferences
the only argument ive seen against it was "its not new guy friendly" but its never seemed complicated to me :headscratch:
not to mention it has a big "MASTER SOUND" option at the top, im pretty sure anyone can figure that out

The change wasn't just because it wasn't easy to use for new players, they needed to update the sound system because they plan on adding new sounds in future updates and to give better sound. Miles Sound by far is better than the old system in terms of sound and resourse utilization. The Miles Sound system taxes your system less than the older sound system and those with onboard sound will benefit the most from the switch to Miles.

I believe the actual argument against it is thee will are plans individual sounds for any myriad of things in the future. German 30mm vs. American 30mm, Goodyear vs Pirelli tires....
Part of what's going on with the sound change is to greatly expand the number of sounds in the game. Doing that and retaining individual sound controls is just not feasible. I don't know of any other games that are setup that way.
We are going to have to make some adjustments to individual sounds and try to find a happy medium on different sound volume levels on different setups. Aside from that, custom sounds still work so you can always put in a different sound.
Individual adjustments for all sounds would be ridiculous in the amount of adjustment possibilities. Possible hundreds of sliders.
There is a thread in "General" that tells how to get rid of individual sounds altogether. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,293186.msg3735809.html#new (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,293186.msg3735809.html#new)

OK, then at least let us turn down the engine and siren noises. For the love of god please :pray.

There has already been a fix posted on how to get rid of the sounds you don't want, wrongway already posted the link in one of his reply. Of course, you probably won't do it as it would entail you doing something for yourself for a change.

And I haven't seen how you modify the sounds in that thread. Maybe I'm missing it. If someone informs me how to do it, then fine.

I just love all these "THE SKY IS FALLING !!!!" threads and complaints LOL!!! The update has been out what, 10 hours LOL!!! Give it a chance already !!
HTC has already said they will be doing some tweaks to the sounds. Jeez give it a rest already.

One thing your going to have to remember, the playing field is now the same for everyone.
No more getting a bit of advantage by turning engine noise off, so you could here the enemy coming, etc.
Its a level playing field, like it or not.
The effects and enviorments sliders work fine for reducing noise so you can hear yourself think, or hear people on vox.
I suspect we are just scratching the surface of what the new system will let us do however.
Give it some time.
Playing AH has always been about adapting to change. And hopefully, always will be.

LOL, that would entail some form of adult restraint instead of the child like behavior people normally use around here. :lol

So sorry Ack-Ack, but at 9:00PM, I don't have time to go digging through a thread.
I personally don't give a damn if you don't like me, or what you think of me.

Not quite. It is probably even easier for the millions of AH2 players that "game the sounds" by simply lowering the effects slider.
Most people just want to keep what hearing they have left. I'm sure HTC will fix at least some of the issues. :pray

In the old system, if I turned my gv engine sound completely down, I still could NOT hear the enemy gv until I completely shut my engine off. Only advantage there was not having to hear "VRROOOOOM" for the whole 20 min driving to wherever the action was.

And then you can't hear flaps, gear or stall (as I told you in another thread). How much is HTC paying you, Baghdad Bob?

Must be something on your end, I can hear everything well enough without anything too loud or too low. Just took some minor tweaking.
-
The only "tweaking" currently possible is the effects slider. Unless somehow your slider is different than everyone else's.
-
I've had everything at 50% or lower from day one, even the old sounds, in order to hear vox. My only issue really is flaps and right now I'm just guessing. Stall buzzer is fine and gear, who cares? The gear light is right next to the "door ajar" light and the turn signal indicator.

Wow, some folks were actually using this lame move? Pathetic.

I just shut down to hear them. I DID turn my tracks down, but only because I couldn't stand the grinding for the 15mins of my sortie.
But now, sound just seems to radiate from everywhere, no sense of direction any more.

i think its still there, just seems less precise or something..
the distance thing is whats got me boggled..

no kidding, terrible imaging now. And you blow something up in front of you and it sounds like it got blown up a completely different distance and direction.

naw Kvuo, the direction thing got scewed as well. Veryold cranked up right behind me, and I heard him in front of me.

Has anyone been getting an explosion like a bomb hitting, while flying around? I've had it happen more than a few times, where I would hear something explode but I was all by my lonesome. I've also heard the same thing while on the ground. There are no enemy or friendly air on dar, but I would hear a bomb exploding nearby. Part of the new sound system maybe? The sound of a bomb going off could be heard from a distance...
The only real problem I had with current sound system was you couldn't deal with the siren itself. :furious But they dealt with that with the patch 1. :aok Right now I can barely hear my gear going down or coming up, or hear my plane rolling down the runway. But those are just "extras". That's really it at this point with patch 1. :lol My question is, will they bring back individual settings? I'm hoping the Stuka will get it's siren soon, but there would need to be an option for it so that players who don't want to hear it, can shut it off. Much like that base siren... :lol

"Individual adjustments for all sounds would be ridiculous in the amount of adjustment possibilities. Possible hundreds of sliders."
No. Just a list. You double click on an effect and then You can change its volume.
If so, then no matter how many big the list is.
I cannot play in a gv actually, because sounds were now always too loud for me.
And to listen my music is still not possible as before.
Customization is (or was) a great features of this game.

Having the individual sounds on a drop down list isn't any different than having individual sliders.

It all starts with a single cookie...before long you're eating the entire package. Ack-Ack is right and you know it.
Do you remember how many sound adjustments there were before this latest update?
Think about the eventuality of having more than double the number of existing sounds embedded into the game, then consider HTC trying to program and maintain an interface to adjust each sound individually just so people don't whine about the lack of volume control over sounds. This new system is easier on everyone, and improves the expandability of the game the same way the last graphics update did. Continuing to stay in the technology stone age is not an option for a game that sits in a niche market, progress and improvement has to occur or it dies.
-
I think what its gonna take for all the drama queens to stop their whing about the newest sound system is for some one to make a custom sound pack.
Just give it some time and someone will, but albeit, someone will whine because in the soundpack their warning sound isn't high enough, their flaps are too loud.. You see where this is going.
All I can say is thank you HTC for trying to improve an addiction. Sounds and new bases and town are awesome. :salute
-
lulu, no its not. We don't need options for tire rumble on the runway, and the little click when a bomb is released.
All we need is the vehicle sound setting returned (almost required to enjoy GV'ing, IMO), and for aircraft, all we need is the flaps, gear, engine, and weapons.

Actually in another thread they said they're including some more controls to some specific sounds, but not to all of them. Its getting better but we still have lots of sounds that are not playing, landing gear, cannons, flaps, etc. AS for doubling the number of sounds in the game, what is the point if we cant hear 1/2 of them? Miles system might be the best thing since sliced toasted bread with peanut butter and jelly, but it really sucks as compared to what we had 3 days ago. We are being patient, but seriously i am beginning to get a headache every time i play. and then we have non-AH staff people telling us what idiots we are and to update our system, because that is the problem. For all of you guys, that try to help we really appreciate that, but the others who's only response is update your system stay out of it, please.

I'm sorry, but semp brings up a good point. Not everyone can afford a top end machine. There have to be concessions some where.

I'm running a system with a Realtek sound chip onboard, far from "top end" and I'm not missing any sounds. True some sounds are a bit lower than I was used to but, with a $15 pair of headphones I can hear everything that's needed including the stuff Semp listed.
Maybe it's not just the new sound system, maybe some of the people doing the "mommy I want" stuff need to take some steps within the game to figure out what works best on their systems.
-
I got a great computer with a 150 headset. I have tweaked the sounds sliders, but still missing some sounds. Tried diFferent sound packs and its all the same. It is not on my end. Unless there some additional sound control. Don't know about. Same thing happens of I use speakers too. And btw I have 3 sets of headphones all same result. Two plug into sb spundboard the other is a usb. And I am not just beatching flor nothing, I have spent more time trying different settings than flying.

Then it's something associated with your sound card or you need to adjust your hearing aid. :neener: Seriously, don't you think that if it was something in the sound system that everyone would be having the exact same problems?
-
The primary issue is that the sound was designed to work a certain way with the old system, the system was replaced with a new system, but the sounds are still designed for the old one and therefore aren't balanced in the new method. They're working on the balance, they're working on the new system, and they're working on increasing some of the customization.
As an example : In the old system you had engine sounds at 45% but everything else at stock. Now, engine sounds are at the 90% they would have normally been by default (twice as loud), drowning out Flaps/Gear and other sounds. It has nothing to do with the sound file changing, nothing to do with the sound system itself changing, and everything to do with a new "sound level balance".
Honestly, the sound issues people are having for the most part have nothing to do with how expensive or cheap your computer components are.
In fact, the Miles sound system should actually work BETTER for people with lower end equipment than the old system did.
