Saxman's Mk.VIII Gunsight Package is tested in game and is now available for download here (http://vmf251-buccaneers.net/Media/Sights/MkVIII.zip)!

This sight is VERY accurate, practically down to the mil. The outer ring is at 100mil with the middle ring at 50, and the hash marks are spaced at 5mil increments. If you know how to calculate lead in mils, you should find that the Mk.VIII lines up EXACTLY.
Just unzip the contents of the ZIP to your Aces High II\Sights directory and it will set the Mk.VIII gunsight for the following aircraft:
F4F-4
FM-2
F6F-5
F4U-1
F4U-1A
F4U-1D
F4U-1C
F4U-4
SBD-5
TBM-3
P-47D-25

The gunsight sizes were fixed in the latest patch. Are they all still as accurate? -just curious

Saxman's work here is because of the new system. It wouldn't work on the old settings.

Nice work Saxman.
Now what is this mil thing you speak of? :headscratch:

Check out this link. The first 2 pages should answer most of your questions, or at least give you an idea of what these things called "mils" are. Darned if I know. I barely get anything they're saying there.

Ah, I see. It was my understanding that Saxman had been working on this pack before the latest update, to fix problems with the previous system. My mistake.

I started it before the update, but based on information hitech provided to us in advance in that thread on how this was going to work.

Ty very much sax, been looking for a right sized Mk8 for my hellcat for a while now. The half size one is just too small and obscures the target.

Hey Saxman, any chance you could turn to the dark side and do a K-14 set? :)
I have the manuals for the P-47 and P-51 (maybe the P-38 too) around here somewhere.

If you want to do the K14 historicly accurate then an 80mil average star reticle or circle and pipper will do. In the P51D and P47M, N, and D40, you will note the K14 gyro sight has two projector lenses.
Left Hand Lense: The left hand was for bore sighting, bombing, and if wanted, for gunnery a fixed circle and dot instead of the six sided star.
Right Hand Lense: The right hand was for the six pointed gyro star and pipper. It could be locked in place as a fixed reticle.
In our game HiTech has not included a functioning Gyro program for the K14 as IL2 has included. So your six pointed star reticle is in fixed mode. But you can vary the size for wingspan. The original K14 in 256x256 is about 106mil and fits the max wingspan projection in the games K14 reflector plate. Thats about a 109 wingspan @100 yards. I'm using an 80mil star which is a 109 at 200 yards. You can substitute the original N9 ring and dot for the right hand reticle. Just remember to adjust your cockpit forward view center line to place the dot for the star reticle centered over the right hand lens or the dot for the circle reticle over the left hand lense. Like in the P47D-11.
Below is a link to a K14/GGS article showing this.

Wouldn't the sight have been designed to center the reticles on the sight glass, rather than having the fixed sight on one side and the gyro star on the other?
-
you'd think so but it doesnt appear that way from the design of the sight (note the 2 separate lenses) or the description of it operation.

In the link I included, half way down the page is a drawing explaining the reticle selections. Just above it is a picture showing the MkII Gyro in a Hurricane with the star reticle ranging an FW190. Scroll to the bottom of the presentation on this page to see the reticles. I've created both the four segment ring and cross reticle and the six pointed star and dot reticle at 80mil diameter. Aprox = Bf109 @ 200yds.
