Title: Quick Volume Fix up sounds -VOX Beep/Gear/Stall/Engine volumes
Post by: Ghastly on July 24, 2010, 02:34:09 AM
For those of you that are still having problems hearing flaps and gear deployment, and are being deafened by the beep associated with VOX, I'm posting this set of quick "fix-up" sounds that have resolved these issues for me.  Hopefully, in a few days to a few weeks, we'll be able to revert back to stock sounds, but in the meantime, these sounds make the game much more playable for me - hopefully, they do so for you too if you are one of those affected adversely.

http://webpages.charter.net/gh4stly/volumefixup.zip

Unzip the zip, and place the .wav files contained in it into your Aces High II sounds folder (If you are unsure where that is, then check properties on the link you use to start Aces High - the sounds folder will be located in that directory.  If you don't know how to do that, get help.)

Contained in this zip are these sounds:
eng.wav - sourced from RangerSounds 1.2 custom sound pack from the IL23 engine sound. It was unmodified other than the volume level (This was chosen solely because it sounded closest to the "default" engine sound of the engine sounds in the various packs on the Custom Sound forum.)  Hopefully he doesn't mind me dropping the volume and including it in this fixup zip.

gear.wav - sourced from an old copy of AH and increased in volume.
stall.wav - sourced from an old copy of AH and increased in volume.
click1.wav and click2.wav - sourced from Windows XP sounds, converted and trimmed in length, then increased in volume.

P.S. Make SURE you remember to remove them at the next patch so that you won't be adversely affected by them when the HTC guys get the stock sounds tuned properly and the bugs worked out of the Miles Sound System.

You're welcome!  Hope it helps others out...

And a big thanks to USRanger for letting me borrow his sound, and for being very very cool with the "Asking for forgiveness rather than permission" part.

 :salute USRanger!

One thing I didn't say before but that should be obvious to anyone who's using them, but this isn't going to help if you've installed a custom sound pack that has sounds for each aircraft in a separate folder.

If that's the case, and you want to use the temporary sounds in the zip file linked to this post, you'd need to move the aircraft specific folders somewhere else.  Or perhaps more easily, you could rename the sounds folder, create a new one, and place these few sounds in it until the issues are resolved satisfactorily.

If you're using custom sounds that's unnecessary.  You can unzip the files into the plane folders you fly the most and you can also unzip them into the root sound folder to be used by those planes without an individual sound folder.

You are right of course - but I didn't want to tell anyone to do anything that would overwrite their existing sounds.  I suspect that there will be further adjustments to the levels built into AH, and that (or at least, hopefully) these adjustments will likely be temporary.

I installed the sounds,  but can only hear them faintly with engine off or throttled back.   Can't hear them when throttled up in a fight,  need to hear the flaps.

Can you make them louder or am I doing something wrong?  I dropped them in where the readme.txt indicated.

Thanks.

the latest patch has included an advanced option.  You can go in there and bump up the gear / flaps sound.  HT somehow thought sticking the default level at 40 was acceptable.  I went and put it at 100 thanks to the last few days flying without  ;)

These were "tuned" to accomodate the last patch as a stopgap measure.  At this point, I'd suggest removing them to revert to default and or whatever custom sounds you like by removing the ones I adjusted the volume levels for.

The HTC crew has not only re-adjusted the volume levels, but they've added sliders again, so these should be completely unnecessary.
