This is a observation, a question, and a wish. :)
I applaud HTC's inclusion of tank armor and gun data (accessed in the hanger same as you would look at an aircraft speed or climb rate). It goes a long way in helping people see just how the tanks measure up against each other, at least on paper. The next time someone gasps aloud when that enemy Pzr IV tears open their T34 at X range, hopefully someone will direct them to that information for starters.
After reading glancing at the "max penetration" stat for each tank gun, I've been able to only guess at which projectile is being used since none of the charts I have at my disposal show any data for point blank. Does anyone have any charts showing point blank penetration data? AND, has anyone else crossed referenced or seen in a different thread as to which projectile HTC is using in each tank? I've got a good idea, but I dislike guessing.
My wish is that HTC will someone cram in penetration data for 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 yards into that box somehow. The current "max penetration" stat shows point blank and it obviously does not tell the entire story. Up close the 17lb'er has a max penetration of 178m, while the Tiger's 88mm has 154mm. By looking at that chart many people are going to assume that the 17lb'er is superior while only those of us who have access to charts and/or know that the 88mm out performs the 17lb'er as the ranges become longer. Likewise, I'd hate to see someone in a T34x with engaging enemy armor with HVAP at anything over 1000 yards when the HVAP loses its steam at that range and standard AP over takes the HVAP in armor penetration.
Thanks. :salute

178m penetration :O Wow, I need to get in that cannon fast!
All jokes aside, I'm very sure HT has thought about it first hand and that they might want the players to figure out the effective armor penetration data at long ranges by themselves. Heck with such charts, new players will spent more time studying these rather than being inside a GV and help the course of the "war" ;)
But I'm also very tempted to agree with you.

SmokinLoon, if they expect armor penetration to remain the same upto max range, then they have no bussiness here. Most of our players have at least a basic grasp of physics (often enough to know that while speed is part of kenetic energy, mass becomes more and more important as speeds decrease (they also know about drag, and so can cipher out that shells go slower as the range increases). They will likely be able to guess that an 88mm shell would weigh more than a 76.2mm shell, although I met a very good tanker who knew that the '88 out preformed the 17lber at range, but thought that the 17lber was a '105.).
Remember that thread where the OP asked for CoD cheats in AH? Its like that; he didn't really have any bussines here if he wanted a game where he could use cheats.

Job well done, HTC!!! The latest patch now shows penetration values for tank AP rounds at various ranges!!! :salute
That alone will shush some of the lads who start to sniffle when their tank is destroyed at a particular range.

I expect the opposite effect honestly, time will tell though.

Why would they whine more? If there is a chart showing that, yes, the T-34 could have killed your Panzer, even IRL, wouldn't that signal people to shut up and accept that they didn't get screwed over by HTC?
-
No because egos are in play here. Its much easier to scream the forbidden word than it is to accept that they suck or just cant wrap their mind around losing at all. Its amazing how many times we have seen people claim they were killed by tank 'X' from 2.4k when actually it was tank 'Y' and tank 'Z' that were much closer and unseen.

I hear things like that all the time. "you shot me through a tree" "you shot me through the bushes" "you shot me through a barn". Along side these statements the word cheater flys, with no regard to the actual facts, in bright white personal messages.
If these people would poke their heads up outside the turret and take a look around at the actual situation, eureeka....
A vast majority of people out there pay little attention to what is to the right, to the left, and BEHIND their tank.
They just look at the map, see where the spawn is and think "They come from there, i'll just sit here and look in one direction and wait for them to pass by". Then that is usually followed by a loud BOOM then an even louder "WHAAAAAAAAAAAA"... oh, don't forget the nasty PM.
And you think fighter jocks have bad SA?

Someone recently posted about how their Tiger I was killed by an M8 and thought it was a bug since an M8 would have been very, very hard pressed to do anything to a Tiger I. It was unfortunate he didn't watch his film before he posted because he later replied to the thread that after watching it, he discovered that not only was he under fire from an overly optimistic M8 driver but there was another Tiger I that was firing at him and is the one that actually knocked out the first guy's Tiger I.
ack-ack

Has anyone else cross referenced the stats AH is showing for AP penetration tables? I'm finding some major discrepancies.

Yep, here we go . . .

My ranger rick buddy does most the weapons inventorying for historical us arms and what not. Asked him to discuss the sherman tank with his other coharts. told him to ask about shermans penetrating enemy tanks and such. The collective answer from these folks was "Why do you ask? Shermans where not designated as tank killing units and were rarely issued ammunition for that task. The army had other special tank killing units." Hehe...never got the rest of the answer.

I just looked around a bit and the penetration tables seem accurate or at least within shouting distance. Theres some variation between a lot of the sites I went to.

I see what you did there.... :noid
However, I was speaking of 2 very different subjects, not one the same. ;)
