Actually don't think this ruling can be appealed since it didn't come from any court but instead from a federal regulator and I think considered an act of Congress.

Just because it's been ruled not a violation of the DMCA, it doesn't mean that Apple has to stop voiding the warranty for those that do this.

In my opinion, the ruling on being able to "crack" DRMs in legitimate bought copies of games to test for "security flaws" is the most important.

dont see this makes any difference in practice, jailbreaking was never illegal before, but it was unlawful (ie. not explicitly allowed by law.) now that its lawful, its still a breach of contract (EULA) which means if you do it you're on your own. like before. :headscratch:

I am not sure how relevant this is,so please excuse my ignorance.but what they said was ok compared to our computers, was that after we buy a cpu we can OC it??before the ruling it was basically saying,as an example, that you cant OC your cpu?

I was never illegal to overclock as far as I know.  So if you do it and fry your CPU,mobo, or video card it voids all warranties and you are on your own.

Apparently the new Droid X has been 'rooted' as well. (No, I haven't a clue as to the bigger significance of this)

This covers other phones too. Not just iPhones.
