Ill make this as short as i can.
Ive been running a TNT2 card with no problems, its made by HiS packaged with Nvidia,s own reference drivers, needless to say this means no problems with any of Nvidias Detonator drivers. HiS make Video cards without the added bells & whistles that might mess your system up.
I just bought a HiS Gforce2 MX400 64meg card. Damn good price. again packaged with Nvidias own drivers.
Installed the MX400 and all looked great, till i yanked back on the Jstick and started getting Blue flashes that took up a good 3 inchs of the bottom of my monitor. Annouying as hell. When i pushed forward on Jstick i would get the Blue flash across the top of my monitor. I adjusted all settings, reinstall the drivers 4 or 5 times, reinstalled DX.
Still Blue flashs. The only thing i didnt check was the refresh. Checked settings, Adapter was set at Optimal. (85mhz)..
Hmm, i thought what the hell, knocked it down to 75mhz, a bit better Blue flashes are now random. Ok, set refresh rate at 72mhz and BINGO....... No more blue flashes or tears.
For your info, HiS sells a strait forward Video card based on Nvidias chips and runs fantastic with every Detonator driver i installed. Best buy for the buck.. Totally impress with this card and the TNT2 i got from them. $145.00 Canadian for the Gforce2 MX400 64meg card with TV out. Thats about 75.00 US..
So, if ya have problems with the Blue Flashs thing, before you do anything start dropping your refresh rate.

with v-sync enabled aren't you lowering your frame rate upper limit when you lower your refresh rate?

yup, but not much difference in FPS going from 85mhz to 72mhz. As i have a 3 year old 15" monitor this may also be part of the problem. End of summer ill go to a 17 or 19 inch.

WD, some of the 6 series detonator drivers have this problem. If you feel like it, try changing mipmapping level to "high quality" rather than best image. Also go to one of the 7.xx series WHQL certified drivers.
Either that or leave it alone if you are happy. (The 6x series drivers also show some odd effects with the ship wakes that I've seen.)

I have blue flashes when I'm not running Shift+F1 mode. Have a G-force card too think only 32 megs though (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Bloom, can only find 6.31 drivers at Nvidias home page, not the 7.xx series WHQL certified drivers.
Do you have a URL for them?

Try:
http://www.reactorcritical.com (http://www.reactorcritical.com)
or http://www.guru3d.com (http://www.guru3d.com)
for more drivers than you can shake a stick at.

Open control panel and go to joy conf, then click on advanced and be sure that the option named "poll with interrupts" (not sure about the english transtation but AFAIK that is the only check box in the dialog) is marked. Unmarking this option may cause interference problems between interrup driven devices and the joy.

I'm using the 7.58 drivers, and I see the odd effects with the ships wakes (white flashes) but nothing else odd.
Anyone reading this using 12.xx drivers with a Geforce? I'd loaded them but found no fps difference in AH so I went back to 7.58 till I have more time to experiment.
Cheers

The 12.x line is mostly for GeForce3's. If you're not using a GF3, they're probably not worth the risk.
-
I'm using 12.10s in Win2k. They work great in AH, but have one little glitch: If you screen refresh rate is not the same as your desktop refresh rate and you alt tab out there will be oddities with textures when you get back into Ah.
www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com (http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com) has newest drivers as well.

thanks WD
I first tried the 12.xx drivers with my ultra but had severe flashing and the screen was dark. Heard they and the 11.xx were for the GeForce 3, saw that the 6.xx had the best benchmarks for direct3d so I went with them. Not sure which 6.xx one I have, at work now. Interested in your findings. Please post res you are running them on and if FAA is on or not. I am at 1280 x whatever, 32 bit, res 85, shift f1 and only get an occasion flash, seems to be more pronounced out the side/rear views than the front view.
thanks

Ok, just did a quick install of the 7.78 WHQL certified drivers.
NO blue flashes of any sort and refresh rate is back to 85mhz. I also seemed to have gained about 7 to 9 FPS in 800x600 32bit hi color.I only went online for about 20 mins and have not gone over the CVs yet. I will tonight and look for glitchs in the CVs wake or and rips in graphics.
At work now, but i will try the other drivers as well, but im damn happy at this point (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Ive seen the 10,11 & 12 drivers, and will try them all and compare FPS and look for any other graphic glitchs.
As i have a few test machines, list the drivers you need me to look at and ill run them.

I also had the GeForce blue flashes. They began when I switched from ME to Win2K. I got rid of the flashes by uninstalling the nvidia reference driver, running the Nvidia cleaner, installing 10.80 drivers and finally running the win2k refresh fix.
When I was finished AH looked much better and I got about 10 extra fps.
However, now after I have alt-tab'ed out of AH I am flying Wonder Women's invisible plane (just the gauges are fully visible, everything else is translucent or completely not visible) through a fluorescent green world. I have changed the desktop refresh rate, but this did not remove the problem.
Any ideas??

Sounds like the refresh rate for the Desktop and the refresh rate in AH are different.
Are you running the same desktop settings as you are in AH?
Has to be the same, for me i run desk top at 800x600 32bit and AH at 800x600 32bit...
Vosper, give my a night to check out the 7.78 drivers, but at this point i would sugest using them.
Dog out.

The 7.78 drivers are probably the best for GF2 cards in windows 9x. The >12.10 drivers would be good for those of us with P4 processors. They contain a little bit of SSE2 code in them and might gain you a couple more fps. (Funny thing is the Tbirds also gain a couple, so there must be some 3dnow instuctions as well.) The 11 and 12 series are mainly for GF3, but there doesn't seem to be a problem using them for GF2 cards. (I'm using 12.10s in Win2k.)
The only bug I've spotted is that refresh and resolution in games needs to be the same as the desktop. (You get a kind of wire frame mode if you don't....)

I had the same problem with my video card, and this solution solved it. I was running a Duron 800 overclocked to about 950 then, and had to up the I/O voltage in order to remove blue flashes. I am now running a 1.333 T'bird with default (I believe its set for 3.5v) and don't currently have the same problem.

Just installed Nvida 12.00 certified drivers on my test system. Gona check out any glitchs then post findings. I have managed to download all Certified drivers and move them to a portable hard drive, so any test requests, post em here...

Running 12.00 whql cert drivers on my GF2 MX on w98se no probs here. (VIA chipset)

Wardog,
I took your advice and installed the 7.78 drivers. With the 6.50 drivers I would get over 120 fps, but with the 7.78 drivers I get pretty much around 85 fps. I think the 7.78 drivers do a better job as for looks, so I will keep them. Geesh, too many drivers! Thanks for your advice :-)

SKurj, are you running the latest Via 4in1 drivers. Im not, but think ill give them a try.

Verdict in for now..
7.78 Certified running under Win98, with a PIII 750 CPU, Gforce2 MX400 64meg Card. The 7.78 drivers seem to be the smoothest so far. Ive tryed most and all will run this card. But not as smooth.
So the blue flashes seem to be a problem with the 6.31 drivers..

Yes Wardog, the latest 4in1 (4.31) i think, and the latest AGP driver 4.05c in turbo mode

WD,
Thanks. I had pretty much eliminated my flashes using GeForce Tweak.
The 7.78's seem to cure it completely.
