Using this benchmark: http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/index.cfm?Game=2 (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/index.cfm?Game=2)
...for AH, you can see my old benchmark was 26 FPS..last night I installed new Geforce 2 with default settings, V-Sync on, and Det.drivers (newest out, 7.24 or something).
Now, I did forget to turn clutter off, but my FR increase was only 3 FPS, from 26 to 29...I believe this is due to the limitation of the CPU, ie. as Fishu stated, I've 'discovered' my bottle neck in my system, I've reached the capacity of the 550.
I will post my FR again tonight with CLUTTER OFF.
Alittle disappointed, but I did notice that the FR seems a bit better around smoking fields.
Regards.

Rip,
Don't worry about your framerate on the ground in the hangar too much. There are so many objects there, that it seems to be very CPU bound when you are on the field. Wait until you get it up and flying when there are not so many objects being drawn. I find the differences much more noticeable then. I think you'll find you have a much higher framerate 90% of the time than your benchmark will show.

Thats funny..
All systems that are above 500-600mhz ive seen with GF2 compared to TNT2, has got a nice boost.. at least 30% more FPS.
We'll see what happens when I get my ATI Radeon sometime next week (I hope)
I'll do then testings at 566mhz and 850mhz, maybe at 952mhz too if I bother to get out PC-100 memory chip for a while.
Default settings? you didn't forget FSAA on which might explain this?
(though, I've seen TB 1ghz systems with GTS doing less 3D marks than my 'corolla' against their 'rolls')

Fishu, are you talking about Anti-Aliasing?
Mipmap level was set to Highest QUality.
Please further explain, as hardware is not my specialty.

Yes, I am talking about it, Full Screen Anti-Aliasing.
If it's on, it will decrease frame rates and I do suspect you might have it enabled, maybe and hopefully, to explain lack of FPS improvement.
Though, don't ask me about configurating it, never tried that configuration program myself.
My best guess goes that you can disable/enable and set FSAA quality by:
right-click on the desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanced.... and some menu from there and probably 'additional properties...' tab.
with my TNT2 the menu is named 'Riva TNT2', but somehow I don't believe that being the case with GF2....
You should* find utilities for FSAA from somewhere there. (if not literally from there, at least from very close)
Hopefully I did explain it somewhere close to it...

Yes, I know of it, and I had it 'On' with my TNT2 config, I *think* I had it 'On' with the Geforce too, so, to stay consistent with the bench mark, I'll have to dig for it since it doesn't show that option in the manual here at work that I am reading.
I thought this was a feature that if turned off would cause some 'tearing' in the terrain...I must be thinking of mipmapping...I'll give it a whirl tonight with it off.
Thanks!

Well, chance has it that a friend will part with his PIII-800 chip for $80 bucks since he's upgrading...looks like I'll nail that bottleneck yet!
-
Rip, you may be hitting the CPU limit. I just posted the results for the GeForce2 MX card on the WEb site (http://www.benchdata.com/) The difference between the 4 CPU's I have tested with this card is pretty dramatic. Look at the details of the BDPerf chart and you will see what I mean.

be getting some sort of geforce card soon
its seems to be the info im getting is the
card is maxed out for me. let me know what
happens after get that 800mhz put in
thx again JCy19

Rgr that Skuzzy, site looks great BTW!
We'll do Jcy19, looks like Geeman gets a new video card and upgrade to 550 soon! (he's got a 16 meg card, giving him my old TNT2, spoiled rotten kids these days!) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

If you don't turn off vsync, your fps is limited by the refresh rate of your monitor. You should turn off vsync for Fradim's benchmark tests.
I encourage everybody to post their video benchmark results on Fradim's website, it would be very useful for everybody else, especially with new cards coming out all the time. There's a link on the AH main page to Fradim's Aces High benchmark page:

Rip,
hows the results without FSAA?
-
Rip,
Even with your CPU, you should see a considerable FPS increase.
Try installing the 6.50 Detonators.
But before you do, completly remove the drivers you have now. To do this, change your display adapter to Super VGA, and restart.
Press START on the desktop, Find, and do a search inside the Windows directory for "nv" (without the commas) and DELETE all files that appear inside Windows\Inf and Windows\System
Restart, install the 6.50 drivers.
Your Aces High framrate should have increased a lot from your old TNT2 card, even if your CPU is old.
To make sure you are getting more performance, try the 3DMark benchmarks (www.madonion.com) with BOTH your cards, and tell us what increase you get with your new Geforce PRO.
Also try running Aces High with FSAA and tell me if its playable; it should be.
I still recomend you upgrade that cpu; durons are cheap and fast.

I think hes running it with FSAA currently.
At least I understood that hes going to tell hows AH running without FSAA... but havent told that yet.

Okay, tried with FSAA off, no improvement. I *did* try a couple things I hadn't on BLOOMS best performance post and now, to date, have squeezed another 4 FPS out of it..for a total of 7...a total of 25% increase...from 26 to 32 FPS.
Note: I'm using the Det 7.52 drivers, will try the 6.50 drivers today and post results.

I have a P2 400 with 128mb of PC100 SDRAM and a Geforce 2 with 32MB on it. I used to get 19-21 FPS constant with my Voodoo 2, now I get about 45-55 at 1024x768. With clutter on too btw.

Rip,
Can I make a suggestion. Try out this GeForce utility. Use the " fast setting" button in the lower right corner

Thanks Vati.
More follow up.
6.50 and (6.51?) Drivers decreased FR, the best drivers that worked for me are the latest (7.52 I believe, not at home, so hard to check).
Interesting note: with 1040 res I get 26 FPS in the AH benchmark, with 1280 res I get 32 FPS !! So I not only gained 7 FPS, but am using a better resolution too!
-
I might add that I now get about 23 FPS flying thru the smoking ruins of an airfield, whereas before with the 1024 res and TNT2, I would get about 12-15.

Thats a big change..

yes Fishu, it is! Overall FR in the bench marked increased 25%, but the BIGGEST improvement is the way that GeForce 2 Pro handles smoke! I can now chase a bogie thru the smoke without the thing turning into a slide show! Wooo Hooo...end of the month I'm going from a 550 to 800 coppermine chip...so, I should be set for another year! (800 chip is costing me $75 bones)
