Title: JU-87 D2
Post by: pwnorris on August 02, 2010, 12:13:25 PM
The anti-tank version of the JU-87.  It was armed with two 37mm anti-aircraft guns.  Each gun has a six round magazine and it fires a tungstun-carbide round.

Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BK_37 for more information on the gun.

Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ju-87 for more information on the JU-87.

This would give the aviators another choice in the anti-tank aircraft.

Interesting, never knew the Ju-87 anti-tank model was designated the D2. I've heard of the G1 and G2.

Umm...you've got the wrong Ju 87.  The G-1 and the G-2 were the tank busters equipped with the 37mm cannons, with some D-3s and a handful of D-5s converted on the field to G-1/G-2 standards.

The D-2 was a glider tug and was intended to be a tropical version of the D-1 but was so over loaded with armor that it adversly affected its performance.  Because of this the Luftwaffer high command to place no particular value on the production of the D-2.

Thanks for catching the error.  I don't know how I could have made it. :headscratch:

Yes, it is the JU-87 G-2.

Actually Ack-Ack, look the the OP...Ju-87 with the Bk 37 anti-tank gun.  Ju-87G-1 or G-2, field converted or factory, still not a D2.  :neener:
