I think it would be useful to be able to click on a friendly dot anywhere on the map and have it display the players name. That way if you see a bunch of enemies and 1 friendly dot near them you could id him, and then contact him for info.
Not a big deal I know, just something I was thinking about.

Neg some people would use it the wrong way.

semp, what do you mean by that? i cant think of a way that it can cause problems, yet I also cant really see how much this improves the game either

believe it or not, there's some people that actually will tell the location of your buffs/goons to their friends on the other side. not that many but enough to make this a bad idea. I learned never to give the location of my goons, based on one time i told on country chanel that i was waiting just north of the town, 1/2 a sector up. I landed and waited, dar had been down since before i took off. a single guy came and got the other goon that was east of the town and then came looking for me. only way for him to know was that somebody told him.
now this will just make it easier for somebody to click and see what you are flying, or who you are and tell his friends on the other side. no thank you.
we can always ask on country "hey whoever is close to whatever base you need help or what do you have there." will be his/her choice to reply or not.

-1, I think the dots would be far too cluttered to actually single them out 70% of the time.

This logic does not follow. The OP is not asking for plane type, only player name. If you ask a player "what are you flying" it is up to him to decide if he wants to answer.

Zoom is your friend. Also, not all of us perpetually furball. :D
Personally, I agree with the OP that it is not a huge deal, but I would like to see it implemented. I think it could clear up country channel a little, and would be useful for communicating with people just slightly out of comms range as well.
+1, assuming it's not too difficult an implementation

I would regularly call out the position of my squad mates on 200, +1.
