Title: 2 1/2 wing flights
Post by: jay on August 04, 2010, 02:46:38 AM
is there any one else that has down this u know just fly with 2 1/2 wings?! (typed this in kinda a hurry)

i flew a 190A5 with 2 1/2 wings just elevators and rudder (thankfully the direction in which the rotors turned was helpful until final aproch were i had to turn it off) i cant remember how exept i was fighting a P38 and somhow lost both my wings lol,a friendly then killed him right after he got my wings. still thinking i actually "had" 1 1/2 wing (the one on my left?) so i flew it to bout half a mile from feild then i realised holy crap i dont have any wings (then precided to call my squaddie to come check this out he didnt beleive me lol) needless to say i landed (with gears!) lol

EDIT: #1 i did have film just the computer the files were on the harddrive quit working #2 i think it was only my wingtips???

I've done this in a 262 before, turned too hard and snapped outer wings off, its fun as all hell (when perks aren't on the line)

I did it in a A-8 once, I split Sed or just dove out of the fight and when I pulled up the outer wings just popped off :D. Then a F4U I had recently shot up came after me but my squaddie killed him. With only 2 1/2 you don't have as much lift so on final I stalled and hit a tree  :rofl :cry.

EDIT: Spell check

Have a film somewhere where I landed an F4U with both wings half shot off and a pilot wound.  The flaming wreckage came to a halt on an ack pad and I got a "successful landing"...concrete is concrete, apparently.

I brought a dora home with both outer wings missing, just missed the runway though

got a zero home with my right half wing gone and one elevator. only thing that saved me was the rudder and existing aileron

262 is suprisingly easy with both tips missing.. just really need to plan ahead to get lined up  and stabilized on approach

done this with a 110, was easier than having 1 half wing.

B-25s just don't fly with a wingtip missing, sadly :(

Ta-152 just looks like a normal airplane when you lose 1/2 of each wing, still very flyable.

Was offline but my Corsair got half its right wing shot off yesterday by friendly  :headscratch: auto ack. Tried a perfect landing but hit the steel and careened into a 5 inch turret  :o But any landing you can walk away from.

P.S. on landing, I only damaged my engine and half of my left wing  :rofl :rofl :rofl
Now whos got the pic of the Jesus Facepalm?

I was flying in the DA and lost my right wingtip in my mossie, so i lessened the power in my #2 engine and got down into flap range. Lowered the flaps, and flew home. Even got her down on the runway.

Lost both wingtips on an F4U-1A on take off, managed to get it up using full flaps, and then proceded to drop my bomb on the town. Got a kill on an M8 defending against LVT's. He PM'd me saying "what the hell is up with your plane? looks like you're missing your wings". unfortunatly, I stalled when trying to land.

Gotta call B.S. on this one.  Anyone that is crappy enough to lose wing tips on take off doesn't suddenly increase in skill and be able to fly around with both wing tips missing (when missing wing tips like people are describing, other parts are also missing like ailerons), drop bombs and get a kill.  Yeah, a big fat Bull Scatology on this one unless you can dig up some film to prove it.

ack-ack

I lost the wing tips in a Brewster while trying to fly it through the new hangars. I could still turn either way, climb, dive, and strafe supply trucks with ease.

Believe what you will, since I'm not going to change your mind. And no, I don't have a film since I had to get a new hard drive when my brother hit my computer with his pogo stick (yeah, I don't know).

If you wish, I will up an F4U with the 500lb bomb (thats usually what I take), let you shoot both my wing tips off with a tank's pintil gun. I'll do the 10 min climb out, and then drop my bomb, attempting to hit you.

I lost both wing tips in an F4U and landed it on a CV.  It was more of a crash landing, but I got a successful landing :)

The period button must be stuck on his keyboard. Oh wait, he used 3 periods at the end to make up for it.
