blade,

The only reason warbirds have announced that new feature is because they are hoping many JP players from the closure of Fighter Ace will go there.

Facts are there are lots of them already playing Aces High and I agree HTC need to do something to make the game more JP friendly but until then it is down to the existing JP players to help their countrymen adapt.

Using any font other than what we have is a very bad idea. I've been playing MMO games for a very long time and the use of these fonts has never been a good thing. Leave it like it is, in my opinion.

What sorts of things happen that are so bad?

Dud there not replacing the English language.  It is maybe a place somewhere for them to help each other.  There's lots of customers from other countries that play but hardly speak English.  I have helped a couple of Portuguese players.  Would be nice to have an international forum where we can help.

As i do not agree with you, there are more and more japanese players flocking to Aces High from Fighter Ace, therefore denying these people of a way of easy communication is a bad choice for HTC if they want to make more money.

I recall a time in 2003ish.   Airmess was tired of someone butchering the German Language and received a 10 minute for "Educating the person on how to properly type out the offending word".   We both never laughed so hard.

Some of the problems I have seen in the past are:
1. Non English spam blocking the majority of players chat messages. (see OP screenshot)
2. One game started having lag problems from the use of multiple text fonts
3. Adding in the multitudes of fonts somehow opened a backdoor allowing players to game the game (not sure how it worked)
4. Snowball effect...where does it stop? Each and every language in the world will want their own, try policing all the languages of the world at once in a mmo.
5. It will alienate non English speakers even more, eventually possibly turning into an "us versus them"

Also think about trying to translate all the training information into different languages, plus the key commands, etc etc. I understand trying to add a more varied playerbase and thats always a good thing, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. I played a German based MMO, and I attempted to learn some German, just to try and stay competitive. I didn't ask them to cater to me, so why should this game cater to non English speakers? Imagine hearing German,English,Italian,Japanese,Cantonese,Russian, etc all at once on vox. Adding a forum section...who will police it? Or will it be ok to bypass rule #4 if the mods can't translate the post correctly?

1. That already could happen now, as you don't need special fonts to spam in German Spanish or Finnish - but it doesn't.
2.&3. I have not any doubt that this would not happen here. I think the COADer here is pretty good ;)
4. Why does it have to stop? Amd why should they suddenly "policy all languages"? Do they scan the squaf channels for ondeceny in forgeign languages (which are already used by us foreigners)? Nope... and they don't have to.  Adding special fonts (for example Umlaute for us Germans) makes typing simply more convenient.
5. See above.. we already have lot's of "foreign" users that do use English on public and their respective language on other channels. Adding special characters doesn't make this policy any different.

If you couldn't tell, that was a screen shot of them testing it.

2. One game started having lag problems from the use of multiple text fonts
what game?

3. Adding in the multitudes of fonts somehow opened a backdoor allowing players to game the game (not sure how it worked)
if you aren't sure how it worked, then don't try and use it. Its like a certain thread saying that the 262 was modeled wrong, and the OP obviously had no clue on how to test things

4. Snowball effect...where does it stop? Each and every language in the world will want their own, try policing all the languages of the world at once in a mmo.
The latin alphabet covers most languages, and the current font set could easily adapt to some off characters. Also, you can cover chinese and japanese to an extent using kanji.

5. It will alienate non English speakers even more, eventually possibly turning into an "us versus them"
I have played various multi nation mmo's, and I've not seen that.

I didn't ask them to cater to me, so why should this game cater to non English speakers?
1. You could have.
2. You should REALLY try to avoid being close minded.

Imagine hearing German,English,Italian,Japanese,Cantonese,Russian, etc all at once on vox.
It would help me with learning Russian and Japanese. It also wouldn't hurt if you could try and learn a new language yourself, why should they be forced to learn English?

Also, we already have people talking in foreign languages on vox, I quite like it.

The J players seem to find their way onto a common vox channel. Would be great to have something for them though from AH if there are lots of FA J players looking for each other.

Not sure how WBs is doing their Japanese stuff - would WB have to re-coad to allow use of standard front-end converters?

Why not just have a program that converts the font typed on one screen to the font viewed on another?

Im sure there might be some sort of program out there that could be built into the game such as our new sound system.

Air Traffic Control worldwide is English.

People all over the world, not being closed minded and superior feeling as Americans, speak or understand English.

Foreign language support means hiring more staff.

Adapt.

Foreign language support means hiring more staff.

So the ability for me to write "Größe" on squadchannel  instead of the more cumbersome "Groesse" would force HTC to hire more staff?

I imagine anything requested here and actually implemented costs HTC money. Then again, this forum is specifically set up by HTC to allow players to request stuff they'd like to see implemented.

nobody is asking ah to have people translate so we can understand.  It's more to have a forum for them to make it easier to communicate with each other.  Look at the forum for FA, they had a special place where they could ask for help and whoever could help did.  Same thing for an international forum, they would ask and whoever can help would respond.  same thing if they type Chinese or Japanese or whatever language.  I have seen people typing in German and Italian on 200, nobody has ever complained about it.
