I am newb usually pretty quiet guy that goes with the flow. But what I just heard on the news has really got me going :furious :furious :furious
I missed what city and state that is doing it(too dumbfounded) but there is some place that is actually handing out FREE CRACK PIPES!!!!! :uhoh :uhoh :O :confused: :O:confused:
Forget investing in computers or new cell phone software guys. Ya might want to invest your money in whoever makes Uzis and AK-47s. :noid :noid
I know everyone going to get a good laugh at this coming from someone with a handle of Disturbd .....so let the comments fly I am not here enough to even care

Not too different from handing out needles which most cities do, but at least that has a health issue it deals with by giving people clean ones to use so as not to further spread blood born diseases, but I really don't see any health benefits to handing out free crack pipes, I mean what reason did they give for doing this?

That was my thoughts exactly...they gave same reason as the needle thing.To prevent the spread of Aids. But correct me if I am wrong I was taught you CANNOT get aids from saliva its a blood thing.Am I wrong???? I might be...IDK
But if any of you guys have ever been affected by a crackhead, you know what I mean...they are the worst form of drug addict(IMO) they will sell you the shirt off of there mothers back to get money.And then steal that shirt they sold to you and then come back AGAIN and try to resell it to you.

The organization lists a couple reasons for the program. I'm ignorant of the crack smoking process so can't really comment on the program. However, I think it's naive to believe these programs create drug users. If the people are addicted, they are going to find a way to get their high. A dirty needle or a broken or dirty crack pipe is not going to stop them. You have to look at the big picture, this is one of many organizations that works with drug users. They are doing a part they feel is important, while other government and NGOs do other parts.
It's not perfect by any means; but I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that this program is hurting.

Slightly off topic.
I was working an in-patient psych unit at a VA medical center once and one of our patients smuggled in his crack pipe... I'll let you imagine where it was hidden.

You guy ever seen the little tubes with a rose inside that sells for about a dollar at your nearest liquor store? that is a glass pipe. Now that is ridiculous.

You can not get HIV from saliva, but however due to the nature of Crack; your oral hygiene is non-existent or severely destroyed which makes micro-tares and holes in your gums that make you bleed. When this blood ends up on the crack pipe then it is possible to spread the HIV virus, although the HIV virus dies nearly instantly once outside the body. (By nearly instantly I mean within a few minutes, depending on how many virus cells are in the blood.)
Even in high concentrations in the lab, HIV has only been known to survive only a couple of hours outside the body.
What you would more likely worry about is Hepatitis B & C, which can last a few days outside the body.

If it has feces on it then you would more likely run into Hepatitis A, E-coli, bacterial infections. Hep A is not severe and in healthy adults will not leave any lasting damage, within 5 week Hep A leaves the body. E-coli and other bacterial infections are curable.
Although if the pipe cut the inside of the rectum then you would have to worry about what I mentioned above 2 posts.

This "program" doesn't surprise me one bit. Another stupid human trick started by a group of morons talking a group of idiots into doing something that ends up accomplishing nothing but adding to the taxpayer burden.

You're right, but the last time I was in Miami (11 years), it was cleaner than Tampa or Jacksonville and that was during a time when the garbage was rampant. Doesn't mean it hasn't gone down hill again.

anywho..I live in tampa bay..but work out of south florida..broward/dade quite a bit. tampa (proper) is crappy..no doubt..but it's only 8 or 9 blocks of crappy. miami.. full body shiver. if you don't know exactly where you are going in miami..odds are you don't make it home. lol

Seen some "Key chain" pipes at the local gas station too in town. Even comes with instructions on how to use it as a pipe.

tampa is a paradise compared to miami.
id put miami as #1 trash spot of florida, followed by ft lauderdale and on 3rd place tampa.

This handout makes ill sence. Wouldn't is make more sence to just handout toothbrushes and toothpaste to those people? Not to mention anyone that knows crackheads knows that one of the physical ailments of them is that their fingers are covered in calises from constantly handling super-heated glass (from their pipes!).
And those "novelty" keychain pipes sold at gas station should be considered a different issue (ie: accessibility to minors), some people here mentioned some concern over seeing them being sold at the corner station, but they aren't really suitable for smoking anything too evil (IE only: tabacco, reefer, dry/leaf substances). "Crack pipes" are a description used for any oil-burning pipe really, compared to leaf or dry (tabacco) pipes that most people have honestly probabley seen or even used. Dry pipes draw the air and flame/heat directly into contact with the substance (often times starting combustion/coals that continue further combustion... think smoking a cigarete or a cigar, ya only need to really lite it once), generating smoke that is then passed through for consumption. True oil-pipes, such as crack pipes, take it one step further in sophistication... amongst other negative things... since they specialize in generating smoke without direct flame while still drawing air over/around a substance generating smoke that is then passed through for consumption. Heating of these oil-based and concentrated substances (crack, meth, and many forms of hashish) causes them to melt, and in a traditional dry pipe most of the prized oil would simply liquidfy and pour out before being fully consumed/smoked.
In short, almost entirely nothing good ever comes out of an oil/crack-pipe at all and they go to help those addicted to the worst of some of the worst drugs out there on the streets. I also strongly feel not enough americans know enough about certain drugs to effectively target them for prevention and enforcing laws on in their communities and I hope this helps educate a little (IE: you got two head/pipe shops in town (and the corner gas stations selling metal dry-pipes) and one of those pipe shops is strictly against selling oil-pipes and the other just doesn't care and wants the buisness... well it might be best to stop wasting efforts to shut down all but one of them and strongly push to get that one shut down ASAP).
