Title: Mather Air Show: Sept 11-12
Post by: redman555 on August 08, 2010, 02:48:06 PM
For those living near Sacramento like myself, there is going to be a big air show at Mather Airfield on Sept 11 and 12th.  It is going to be the biggest gathering of P-38s in over 50 years.  They will also be having a Fa-22 Raptor (My favorite modern day aircraft) show as well as a F-18 Hornet.  They are currently looking for Volunteers to work the weekend there.  If interested contact (916) 876-7568.  Or apply at www.californiacapitalairshow. com

I am considering volunteering or going, just giving all in the area a heads up.

I'd like to go but I'm not sure my finances can handle it.  It's about a three hour drive if the traffic isn't bad. I use to have a friend stationed at Mather back in the 80's, when it was an active AF base.

I'd love to go but it's tricky for me to swing since I really try to avoid paying for a motel for the night in Sacramento.

I'd have to first leave my home down here by 2am, go do the airshow thing, and then (usually) sunburned and exhausted continue driving another 4-5 hours to arrive at the family cabin after dark up in the mountains near Redding where I'll recouperate for a week or so in a shady river or lake.  I've done it before though, think I'll opt to take a nap in the car somewhere along the way up this time though.
