Title: Japanese CV's Kaga or Akagi
Post by: W7LPNRICK on August 11, 2010, 09:29:59 PM
The Kaga and it's sister CV were sorely whipped at Guadal-Canal...or Midway? anyway, we were lucky and they weren't. It had BIG guns along side. Perhaps we could perk a Japanese Carrier fleet, or sompin like dat?  :bolt:

A Japanese equivalent task-group would likely be great in scenarios, unfortunately in the MA is just raises a lot of balance issues that would result in whines and IMO just wouldn't work out.

+1 for scenarios or perhaps new maps that would only use the Japanese fleets for a change of pace.

Hehe....they lost 4 aircraft carriers at Midway, Kaga, Akagi, Soryu and Hiryu. They also lost (or damaged) a few more destroyers and cruisers.

lol every wish like this, someone always asks which counrty get the JP fleet, or talks about how unbalanced it would be if one side got the JP ships, why not just spread the CV's out between countrys, ie if countrys have 4 TG's each, just make 2 each into a Japanese carrier group, and speaking of CV's,  do they move in game at full speed?

It could work. Random spawn, either Japanese or American fleet, there wouldn't be any difference in how they are used. Some dipstick will park the thing 2k out from a base and whine when it gets sunk.

Don't forget we have MA maps with different fleet sizes. Some fleets have only a CV, some have a CV & CA, some have 2 CA's in the fleet along with 6 DDs. I don't see how having an IJN Fleet would un-balance things.

I believe the Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and the Hiryu were all lost at the Battle of Midway (my Midway book is all packed up at the moment so I can't double check, someone please correct me if I am wrong).

Correct, along with the cruiser Mikuma, in exchange for Yorktown and the destroyer Hamman.

US Carriers, Japanese Carriers, British Carriers

Rooks: US

Bish: Japanese

Knights: British

All of them have no advantages over anyone. just to give the look of Colour you know. And maybe the Bish could have one fleet with a Graf Zepplin lol. That way we have everyone covered.

And of course fleets would have to be reskinned. So Battleships of Japanese make, British make and US make and of course Destroyers, Cruisers etc

Of course,  Akagi and Hiryu had their islands on the opposite side, which could make approaches kinda tricky.  :D

I just got done playing a campaign in Uncommon Valor. The Kaga and Akagi were my war horses and survived the war (well until Dec 43 when the camp ended)  I think the Kaga was built on a BB hull, and the Akagi a BC hull.

it would be nice if the carrier countries changed when the maps do. so when the maps change the rooks get the brits cvs. bish get the US cvs. and nits get japanese cvs.

I wish I could remember where I read this, but the reason given in the text was. The Hiryu and Soryu and the Akagi and Kaga could sail side by side conducting simultaneous air operations with Akagi and Hiryu's aircraft making clockwise circuts and Kaga and Soryu's aircraft making counterclockwise circuts.
