That is the crappiest looking sim pit I've ever laid eyes on. I hope you didn't spend more then a couple bucks.

Posted this pic before. The rig still works well, although my AH playing time is down to zero lately.

I think he did a pretty good job. If you have little extra space (or big honkin wife ack) for your simpit you have to make concessions. I like the way the pedals fold up into the unit. I'll bet the sucker hides away in a closet very nicely.   :aok

How much could I possibly have spent? it's PVC. The beer can was a prop, it wouldn't hold a bottle of Canadian Club.

So let's see the one you built.

I think jimson's is pretty slick. A clean compact, self contained unit.

I had found one once that was a completely enclosed wodden box. I think it was on I-am-bored a while back but I can't find it now. This is a similar one, though.

http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=1165 <--- this is what i have on the way. I'm on a break from the game so I figured I'd get rid of my ghetto setup and get something a bit cleaner looking for the living room.
The seat is extra but doesn't look too comfortable. I'll be using a reclining jeep seat later on. Should have it this week with a new pro 52  :joystick: and mouse. Taking a break is sometimes good  :rock but the withdrawel is a  :OB&*(()# ! If your setup works and is comfortable, go with it! I'm just dodging  :bolt: wife ack NEO style by getting the sim systems one.

No, no, he has the right to that opinion, it was just a knocked together stand to make it easier to share a PC with the wife and keep my crap out the way of her facebook and farmville adventures.

If ever I have room to build something more dedicated, it will certainly be much more impressive.

Careful it's a slippery slope.

Joe I always liked your simpit, but I knew I wouldn't be able to handle climbing in and out of one. I also prefer the side stick controller, and that's why I made mine a hybrid of sorts. It's not patterned after any real life cockpit, but I still get the immersion factor no matter what I fly.

The part of the pvc part I thought was cool, is the fact you could hide the cables in it.
Others have made better and more elaborate ones, but I like the fact you can hide everything in the piping.

Is your joystick fastened down?  Call me crazy, but I prefer to have my joystick set at an angle approximately 20-30 degrees clockwise off center, seems to rest better in my hand and easier on my wrist.  I could never fly with the joystick perfectly straight.

Nice work all of you!!!!

i built one awhile ago that was plug and play and on wheels. every part of it was designed to be adjustable so that anyone from a 100 lbs midget to a 400lbs gorilla could get in it and find their own comfortable location for everything.

i could roll it out of the closet plug in 3 plugs, 2 usb and one wall plug, play until i was thoroughly satisfied that i had died horribly enough times for one evening and then unplug those 3 plugs and roll it back to its hole. i wish i had taken some seconds to snap a pic or two but i just didn't think of it.

mine was not as pretty as some shown here, wished i had thought of the PVC piping instead of using square tubed aluminum!!!! but it worked and was fun to build and use.

maybe someday i will build another one, if i do ill remember to gets some pics to post!

Mine fits under my desk, I just slide the monitor over when I want to fly. Also it breaks down into to parts and the pedals fold up. It fits easily in the back of an suv for going to CON.  :aok

a good sim pit is on my to do list and I don't have to deal with wife ack over it.  If I make it comfortable enough I may not come out ever..

Baumer, could you send me the materials and sizes of what you used on your pro 52? I tried the same to mine but wow did it not come out right. I have a new one on the way but i'm about to merge an x65 with a pro52. The x65 grip and trigger are awsome but the stick doesn't move like the pro 52.  :aok Your pro  52 came out great!

Mine is fastened with small inverted bolts and threaded knobs.

I'm sure it could be easily tweaked to be canted to one side or another, or you could just shim up one side under the base or something.

Thanks I'm working on another x52 project currently. I'll take a few photo's and provide a parts list on how I did it. I'll post all that up tomorrow evening.

I am having my mom's boyfriend build me one.  I told him if he did, I wouldn't be opposed to the wedding  :D.  Of course i need to find a place to put it since my gf said something along no way in hades.  anybody got an extra gf you're not using?

ebfd11,

it took me about 10 hrs to assemble after purchasing the PVC.  A great thread on this topic was posted 17 May 2009 by TUK titled  "lets all show our units"....do a search  ...lots of outstanding rigs on that thread.
Check your PMs I sent you the paragraph on how to go about it. Any questions feel free to PM me.

It's totally worth the 20 bucks it costs.  I bought the plans and built it and the time I would have wasted trying to figure out what went where by just looking at the photos was worth that 20 bills easily.  I love that thing.  I used to use a 5 gallon bucket with large book on it for a joystick stand it it would slide all over the damn place when I maneuvered hard.  Now everything is nice and stable and ergonomic.  1000% improvement.

Probably fairly costly to build, but this one is AWESOME.  This builder has some serious skillz.
