Title: Bailing Bombers
Post by: Chalenge on August 15, 2010, 10:26:56 PM
I set up on a formation of bombers tonight and the second I hit 6k he bails out so I check the film and get his name and check his stats. This guy bails from his bombers it counts as a single 'captured' and not three 'bails' so I have to ask...

Is this a bug?

The scoring system doesn't factor in drone bails since there wasn't a player in those planes.  Doesn't sound like a bug but rather an intended designed of the scoring system but in my opinion, should record the drone bails as well.

It's said that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds ... but truthfully, I can see why it's 3 sorties for scoring purposes. Yet ... if I shoot down all 3 bombers of a bomber box, doesn't the pilot get scored as 3 deaths rather than 1?  (I should probably know by now, but I don't bomb very often.  In fact, I'd need a refresher on the bomb site before I do so again, it's been so long.)

If it's 3, I can easily see why a single bail would be preferable to risking 3 deaths if you're going for score.

When you bail from one, don't you jump to the next.  Then you have to bail again, and then a third time to get to the tower?  Basically hitting enter nine times in a row...sounds like three bails and should be scored as such.  Personally, I don't see why so many are so wrapped up about score that they'd do that, or care that others do it.

Now, I can see the frustration of climbing up there, getting close and then having your fun stolen by the dweeb who bails out at 6k so you can't get a kill.  Wouldn't it be nice to have an incentive to stay and try to protect yourself - say bailing out of an undamaged plane anywhere near an enemy would be scored as a death instead of just a bail?  Three bombers, three deaths.  I'd think people would rather stay and try to protect themselves than to roll over quietly and give someone kills for doing no work.  This is a combat game, isn't it?

Primarily its (score is) the only thing that might stop someone from doing this and probably the only reason they do things like this anyway. BUT after fighting past escorts and going to the trouble to get setup for an attack run on a formation I think its time for a good fight and not whatever this bailing thing is (poor sportsmanship I say).

I'd like to post something else on the subject, but I think I'll just go to bed instead.   :old:

Probably saving myself from a Rule #4 or something.   :D

When you bail out you don't automatically jump to the next plane, you have to press a key to jump to one of the drones.  I believe once you bail, you can't even jump to one of the drones.

I dont think so Ack-Ack. If you try this offline it works the same way as online right (so you can try this yourself)? When you bail you automatically move to the next drone. If you lose a wing and are rolling down toward the terrain you have to bail to move to the next plane. If you dont bail and you get too far from the drones they explode. If you are in bomber #3 as tail gunner and the lead bomber loses a wing you wont know it until the drones explode and you dont have a plane to fly anymore.

maybe he don't care about score either and that's why he bailed.  And it won't matter to us either because we won't get the kill.

Usually if they dont care about score they dont fly to 25k to bomb HQ. Just saying.

I don't care about score but you will find me at 25-30k if I'm gonna do a bomb run. Gives me time to grab a drink, munchies or make a head call.
