Title: Ambient Sounds
Post by: Rolex on August 16, 2010, 07:15:34 AM
Ambient sounds really enhance immersion. Maybe we could have some more, such as ship engine and general ship-board sounds and the sounds around airfields - some drills, hammering, even the sounds of trucks and cars, announcements, troops marching, etc.? Or, how about some subtle sounds of birds, crickets, and rustling of trees on the ground and wind sounds while camped out in the woods?

I believe such stuff is in progress behind the scenes. Probably be a few months though.

How about farting and belching with the soothing sounds of Glenn Miller in the background while in the tower.  :D

Reconstruction sounds after hangers etc are damaged. When the trucks come to resupply have a voice yelling on the PA " Get those trucks off the runway!"   :D

Of course, that voice would be of HiTech himself, and most people would change it as soon as possible...

Hmmm, no hijack intended, but this begs the suggestion that maybe HTC could solicit player-submitted voice-overs like the one FLS suggested.  Maybe make a contest of it, like they've done with player-submitted screenshots.

HTC could post a list of voice-over track suggestions (e.g., "All hands on deck!", "General Quarters, general quarters!" etc.) and the players could record them, add sound effects in the background, etc. and submit one or more of them to HTC, which would pick the best ones.

Winners get bragging rights to being (ahem) immortalized in the game (until someone does a better soundpack item that is).  End of possible thread hijack...

+1 on the ambient sounds idea.

FWIW,
