Alejandro Maclean accident while training...
It was only a matter of time. As fun as that sport is to watch, it is probably the most dangerous one out there. Aerobatics is dangerous enough, but throw in the racing aspect of it and it's just about as extreme as it gets.
RIP Alejandro
-
only thing that could make it more extreme is if they do a race in Downtown Pittsburgh... Talk about a challenge. talk is they are trying to get a race here too.

they could also widen the pilons and allow everyone to race at the same time, that would be suicidally extreme

What would be intense

He wasn't racing but doing aerobatics.

Wolfala posted that 2 days ago, indeed with out that emergency chute the out come would of been tragically different, maybe if his plane was equipped with the BRS he would still be here, is that system expensive to where all teams are unable to use them? seems to me that its a good investment, granted they race low so I'm unsure if that system would deploy fast enough, its a great system for aerobatics thou and i've seen them on ultralites
-
BRS isn't that expensive - but they are racing at such a low alitutude it wouldn't matter anyway
-
I read he was training for aerobatics, not for a Red Bull race. The Red Bull season is over, or at least I thought it was, I was thinking a champion was crowned a week or so ago.
There will not be a Red Bull season next year, due to the close calls they had this year, and other issues. They're saying maybe in 2012. I'm actually glad to see them take a break before someone is killed in a race. Maybe they can solve their problems.

Aerobatics, especialy near ground, we all know how it ends if something went wrong,
theres no 100% safety, and will never be, especialy at this sport, yet they do it.
I,m sure he loved his sport, R.i.p. Alejandro Maclean.
Its tragic, they left a wife with two kids... :frown:

it not a matter of money but weight. Cirrus installs it on their 20/22 aircraft, cesssna on the C162, Rans (options for all kits i believe) and Diamond have it on some of their light aircraft. All of the aircraft that have it that i have seen are all really small and light.

ummm./.......i thought they said it was during aerobatic training for a show, not a race? if so, how is everyone jumping on the race series?

CASSARUBIOS, Spain – It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Red Bull Air Race pilot Alejandro (Alex) Maclean, who has died today at the age of 41 following a fatal accident in his native Spain while carrying out aerobatic training for an Air Show. Our thoughts are with his wife Emma and their two children aged 7 and 12.
so where does the race series come into play?
