Title: Need help with Overclocking (Please)
Post by: bashwolf on March 30, 2001, 04:21:00 PM
Hiya All,

I went into Bios setup and tried to overclock.  I have the Softmenu II.  The current system is PII 400, 256 MB(not sure what kind), Tnt2 32mb ultra, with Bh6 motherboard.  What i dont know is that the softmenu.  I went to change the external clock from 100Mhz to 133 and when saved it showed 533 CPU.  But I got an error saying CPU has been changeg and error.  Went back and set factory default.

This what i have on softmenu
External clk: 66mhz,75,83,112,124,133
Multiplier factor: 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5
I have this turbo Frequency (not sure what this is)
AGPclk/CPU CLK
Core VOltage: 2.0V (which is default setup)

Hope this helps. 1s Timer OC'er here.

I think the "speed error hold" setting needs to be disabled to avoid the changed CPU message. The turbo frequency setting raises the FSB from 100mhz to 103 mhz.

jihad is on the right track, but I have to say this...

I've o'clocked every machine I've owned, I've done it on my own, with information I've gleaned off the net etc.  Asking someone on the BB to help...  Frankly I am not going to help you for the simple fact that if something goes up in smoke I don't want to hear, "You told me so!!"

I will give you this piece of advice though:
Do not go from 100 to 133 in one step!!  If your board supports FSB's between 100 and 133 I'd recommend working your way up.

I OC my puter from 400 to 448 and ran it fro few hours.  Had no problem at moment.  I still dont how i over clock with multplier factor.  I Changed external clk to 112 from 100 Mhz.  Do I increase multiplier to get to run at 475 etc ???  Thank you in advance.

Ok bash +)

You can't change the multiplier, think most cpu's today are locked. Sooo all you can do is change the FSB which you have done.
Now when clocking pay attention to your pci and agp bus speeds and ram speed (PC100, PC133 etc)
Go to www.tweak3d.net, (http://www.tweak3d.net,)  and READ all you can.

To date I've owned a few pc's
amd 75 @ 83
pent 133 @ 150
pent 200 @ 225
celery 266 @ 448
celery 366a @ 550

ohh and btw I did my clockin on the same board as yourself for the 266, and was using PC66 ram at 112mhz FSB +) at 1.9v  Make sure your agp is not at 1:1

i can't help it   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
