Greetings Terrain Editors!
I have a huge collection of terrains from the H2H days. These are both for AH1 and AH2. I was very active during the entire H2H experience, and I captured every terrain map I could ever find. I've still got them all.
I've been thinking about these. Some of them aren't very good, but a lot of them represent hundreds of hours of your labor! Dozens of them are truly splendid. I think it would be a shame to let these fade out of existence.
So I'm tempted to publish them all on my web site. I could dedicate a set of pages to these gems. I've already put the 2 terrains I created there. For example, check this:
http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/AcesHighFullPage.htm
Click into the "Terrain Maps" link to see what I'm considering.
But I don't want to do this if it offends any of the people that created those terrains [That's YOU, Terrain Editors].
Accordingly, I'm posting this message here to get a feel for what the community thinks about the idea, and to give any of you the chance to object with regard to any terrains you created.
So..... what do you think? Good idea? or Bad?
And I won't publish any terrain if the author asks me not to. I'll just let this thread percolate for a couple of weeks to judge reaction.
Regards,
-Peabody-

Go for it! I'd love to see if any of my old ones are in there.
-
I could not imagine why one would object, they made them for the comunity :aok
I think it's a great idea
-
Nice idea.
All my terrains you can freely publish.
-
Only problem will be that they are so outdated from so many terrain versions ago that they probably are unrecognizable from what they used to look like.
Load em up anyway. Let's see em.
Btw, any terrain that was used in H2H became public property the moment they uploaded it for use.

Ranger:
Thanks for your many contributions (and our hopes and prayers are with you and your family at this time)!
I hadn't realized that these were already "public property". Is that in the terms of use?

UPDATE:
Since there have been no objections and I've had influential encouragement, I've begun the process of publishing old terrains. I've started with my collection of terrains for Aces High "Classic" (AKA AH1). Here's the URL with background:
http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah1Terrains/Ah1TerrainsByOthers/Ah1TerrainsByOthersFullPage.htm
At present the page isn't as pretty as it will eventually become; I plan to add a screenshot showing the clipboard map for every one of these terrains.
Still to come: old H2H terrains for AH2. Enjoy!

Peabody I have DL the survive and practice terrains and all I got was a CTD, I dont think these terrains are compatible.
-
Nice job there :salute
The P-h2h04B.res brings up so much good memories. One of my favorite h2h terrain.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
All (I think) of those terrains require AHI, not AH2. There may be some AH2 terrains from the h2h days in there, but you'll need the old version of AH2 to run those as well. The terrain engine has been updated many times over the years.
-
Correct. I've only published the "AH1" or "Aces High Classic" terrains thus far. I'll publish the AH2 collection soon. Please have patience. Eventually I'll try to publish screenshots of each associated clipboard map, but I'll need a little time for all of that. It'll amount to 40 or 50 new web pages. Maybe more. Stay tuned....

:salute Peabody  for a job well done! I d/l'd all of the AH1

Happy1: Glad I could help. I've just found a whole bunch more AH1 terrains and I hope to get them uploaded and published within the next few days. The new ones include a bunch of the "official" ones that were originally published on the HiTechCreations.com website. This new group of AH1 terrains will delay publication of the AH2 ones. Sorry about that... all in due time.

Ok,
Dumb question, where am I able to get a ah classic d/l?
I would love to see what these terrains look like.
-
Hi :lol see Reply # 6 above, all data's there, on this msg board. :aok

Update: As of today (13Sep2010) I've greatly expanded the list of available AH1 terrains. The new additions include several that were very well-known back in the days of Aces High "Classic". For example, you'll find these:
Burma
Libya
Tunisia
Kuril
Slot
MrSmog6
Norway
Shuffler's FFA
Shuffs Paradise
....and many others. There are now about 75 in total.
Here's the link:

AH2 terrains are next. Give me a few days.

I've published about 65 terrains for Aces High II and newer versions of Aces High. A few of them get their own page with a screenshot showing the map as displayed by Aces High 2. More coming....
Enjoy!

I remember there used to be 1 or 2 maps that were basically air race courses, one had like a blimp type thing and a dirt race track for jeeps as well. anyone help me out?
-
Sorry, I don't remember those and I don't they are in my collection. However, if you do find them, please email them to me and I'll add them to the collection for the benefit of all.

Ex-jazz:
Thanks for alerting me to the existence of those maps. The YouTube video makes them look like a lot of fun!
I downloaded them and tried them out on my own, but I noticed that most of the spawn points are boxed in by barricades or other barriers. I can't figure out what was intended here. Is there some way to make these useful?

Hi bbosen,
Those start barriers were must for the h2h race hosting. It was a preventing the jump-starts once and all.
So, you must delete the barriers objects, mentioned on clipboard. It's also good idea to destroy all field acks in performance shake.
If you adjust the downtime, the barriers will stay down during your flying session.
Funny, I just find that old vehicle race demo video. I uploaded it to the youtube:

Update 21Jan2011:
I've added Greece, Tunisia, and Ranger's amazing new "Rngercove" and "twinriver" terrains. Wow, Ranger! :aok
For Tunisia, there was a naming conflict with an older map that looked completely different. I've renamed the older one "TunisiaOld".
-
I really miss H2H, I can't wait for them to bring it back. Thanks for the map uploads.
-
Anyone have HtHide's FFA map? Especially one of the last versions with airstarts between the middle airfield and the "eagle's nest" airfield.
-
dont know if anyone has asked....is the squid in one of those old maps?

Short answer: YES.
Long answer: I know I've seen the squid on one of these maps, but I can't remember which one.....

Thanks for your hard work, Bbosen.

Update 29Nov2012:
I've added my new "Leyte01" terrain for Aces High II. Here's a link:
http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/AcesHighFullPage.htm
From there browse into "Terrain Maps" -> "Terrains for Aces High II". The new Leyte map will be apparent from there.

Heheh, ZMegsH2H.res, now that map name brings back some memories.

Hi
The good old days H2H was a great fun. All those maps & ideas we had then... Oh boy.
Those strictly managed rooms with specific scenes and limited plane sets, ammos & views. Tons of fun.
I'm saluting the H2H map makers / server hosts, who were doing a lot of free work / advertising for the AH back then :salute
(edit)
For younger ones, back then we had a maps like these
