1978 sitting on the Run way at Kunsan AB Korea, I'd watch the ROK Pilots flying the F-86's(Big dive braked between the pilot & elevator on the sides) off the same runway we flew the F-4D's from. They were still in service, and the ROK's took it very seriously. When we gave them the F-4D's and brought 16's to Kunsan, they kept running the 4's off the end, or between the the runways into the wet rice patties to keep the Magnesium brakes from burning up the whole aircraft. Forget to Pop the drag chute, or Pop & release it at the same time...? ooops! We had this huge crane that could reach quite a ways and lift the whole "Lead Sled" out of the muck and onto a service truck. :old: Back in the day. :airplane:

It would take you a month to get the highest ENY plane or even get into an arena. Ya think speed issues are a problem now, think about the terrain going by 3x as fast.

YoooHooodie! Been in one, a long time ago. The B-36 was awesome 4 jets and 6 Piston engines, making it the largest mass produced piston engine aircraft ever built and the first truly intercontinental bomber ever built . Man! Back in the day it was a hell of a bomber. Skeered the Ruskies to death without ever dropping a bomb. There were other faster smaller bombers built soon after, as well as supersonic interceptors, but those early jet bombers couldn't carry Fat Man & Little Boy type bombs because of their size and lack of true intercontinental ability. It stayed in service until the B-52 took over because ICBM's were no real threat until the 60's.

the B36 couldn't be intercepted because of it cruising altitude, wich was above the maximum altitude of the interceptors.

lol yes the B-36 did scare us, untill we made 5 or 6 much better bombers that scared the US twice as much haha
-
Since you couldn't even make the Tu-4 without stealing it, that would have been a neat trick. :D
-
that also just proves that our spies were better then yours in the cold war, we got all the plans for the good planes hahah
-
Since the B-29s were landed at Vladivostok those spies didn't have to work too hard.
Soviet missiles were a scary threat, bombers not so much.

Yeah, why not? :D
