I was talking to Yeager and I noticed that are quite a few of us players in the Washington/Oregon area. I was wondering who would be interested in doing our little gathering at a predetermined place. I know my schedule doesnt permit me to go the Aces High Con. Just an idea I am throwing outthere.
-
it would be alot of fun, maybe have it at one of the air museums, heres a thread with alot of interested people http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,260512.45.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,260512.45.html)

I think I read that Zoom, most of the 2 years I have lived here I have been gone. I dont know what is around here other than Mt Rainier (staring at it now ) and I -5. I'd would be all for it and more the input the better I suppose but this post is a start.
-
The Pigs have multiple folks in the area. I will post this thread to the Pigs BBS.

My ID gets me in, no worries.

I've BSed my way in and out of tougher situations/partys/checkpoints before.
Just tell your COs we'll behave... as long as there aren't any aircraft lying around for us to hop in and take a drunken joyride in.

I would enjoy this. I live in the Columbia Gorge area, and have just passed drivers saftey. Just need 3 more months on the permit before I can go pick up my lisence, so transportation will no longer be dependent on friends and family.

I live in the Columbia Gorge area
I spent many wonderful summers as a boy/young man visiting my grandparents who lived in Rufus Oregon right on the Columbia River just west of the John Day Dam. Biggs, Hood River, Mary Hill Museum (On the WA side)....many fond memories there roaming the hills and wheatfields above the gorge.

Love the area, nice place to live. Only think I don't like is the perpetual rain in the spring.

Seattle has the excellent Museum of Flight. Besides its wonderful collection and exhibits, it has periodic panel discussions by WWII pilots, which have been fantastic. (In summer, the Collings Foundation visits, where you can buy half-hour flights in their B-17, B-24, B-25, and P-51, but this is sounding like a get together sooner than that.)
30 minutes north of Seattle is the Flying Heritage Collection of WWII aircraft that are taken out and flown from time to time. That's the place where the Me 262 new builds are, as well.
Who should we add to the following list of folks within driving distance of Seattle?

Wedge1126
Bear76
Babalonian

Cool, sounds like things are getting set up. I won't be able to make it anytime before next spring (no breaks from school in the fall).

Naaa, it's not. If I remember, it's only around 4 hours from LA to SF, and I've done Seattle to SF in 8-9 hours. No problem. :aok

It definitely sounds like it has a chance of happening. I guess we could start a contact roster via email or whatever is easier.

Once it took me 8 hrs to drive 53 miles home during a thunderstorm. 21 hrs is not too bad. Btw where the heck is seatle I can make it to Dallas in less time? Don't matter, if I can ill make the drive :).

once we get a rough list we need to see where the majority of the players are coming from, i know theres alot from Northern Cali Area and all thru Oregon so we can try to find somethings of interest in between Portland is like a good center point to start, Seattle is only 2- 2-1/2 hrs to portland, my home in central Oregon is like 7 hours to Seattle 2 1/2 - 3 to Portland, i know scotch lives on the Oregon coast i think, thunderegg lives around my neck of the woods, maybe we need people to post there name with there town and we can figure something out
Zoom - Prineville Oregon
-
Zoom, that is a great idea and see where majority of people reside and go from there..
-
I live in seattle :D
-
I live on the central Oregon coast. And If I wasn't ill, I'd love to goto a gathering. Perhaps at the Tillimook Air Museum or some place similar.
-
I'm a two hour drive from Seattle. I don't drive, however. So unless someone wants to meander up here and pick me up or I can con my father into it... :D
-
Lol, I'd pick you up except I'd have to drive past seattle to do it :lol.
-
That's why people don't tend to do it; only someone coming down from Vancouver would be "on the way."
-
I might be able to make it. I'm near Portland.
There are two air museum's in the "area", one in McMinnville and a smaller, but cool one in Tillamook.

<S>
I started the midwest gathering at my house in 2006 with about 10 of us and we just had our 5th. year in July and had an increase of players each year. This last year had about 50 players. Since the last gathering I have moved to Washington near Seattle. I plan to attend and help out with the midwest gathering each year and have passed the bulk of the responsibility to Betty since I am NW now.
If you guys need any help or are looking for a certain date/time to put things together let me know. I am unpacked and pretty much settled in other then learning the roads and shortcuts to places around here.
PM me if you want to work out some 'local" details.

And, strangely enough, I've never been.

Never been to the museum of flight but Paul Allens (heritage flight) is well worth it by Pain or pane ( or however its spelt) is well worth it. They fly some of the birds around on certain dates.

Is anyone running with this or should I start pulling my museum strings for tours? If no one has specifics yet then how about those interested start giving 2011 dates that will work for them let's say between June and August so we can get a majority of when most are available. If someone else started all this or has looked into anything let me know.

Not sure what you had for dinner that night but, the chunks came out after the first washing. The puke smell took a few washings and some fabreeze. Maybe next time you can handle your drinking a little better.

It would be easy to spend an entire day at Paine Field (25 miles N of Seattle) with a structured tour to all of the museums and facilities. I work on the airfield and can act as a liaison to the venues.
These are the highlights that are right on the airfield:
Future of Flight/Boeing Factory Tour (747, 777, and 787 lines)
John Sessions' Historic Flight Foundation (B-25, Tigercat, Bearcat, P-51B, +more)
Paul Allen's Heritage Flight Museum (P-47, P-40, A6M, P-51D, Fw-190D13, F6F, T-34 tank, 88mm flaks, +more)
Museum of Flight's Restoration center (Wildcat, XFU-1 Crusader, F7U Cutless, 727-100 #1, DeHav Comet, +more)
Me-262 Restoration facility
Best times:
Weekend Fly days, held every two weeks during the summer flying season, are good. In April thru late May you're likely to catch many of the airplanes flying as pilots renew their annual qualifications in preparation for the summer flyging season. September through early October will also maximize the chances of seeing all of the available airplanes in these museums.
Worst times:
Many of the vintage airplanes and warbirds are likely to be at other venues in the region attending airshows during the summer. During the winter season, many of the airplanes are sent to off-site facilities for repair and maintenance.

I thought about that this morning on finding a date that would give us the most people and where it should be held, etc..etc.

I think after the holidays and a break in weather would be a great time. How do you guys feel about March? I may be out of my league with some of you Washington guys being here longer then the 60 days I have been but, I can start looking/calling places for tours/discounted block of rooms (depending on where we decide to "meet up" for the day/weekend). Any suggestions on a hotel that has a place to eat/drink that can accommodate us without worrying about how long we are there?
First need the place everyone who knows the area agrees on
Second need a time March, April or later. I think after the holidays is better since they are right around the corner and it will give us time to plan.

I think these two are good ... have a Friday night bar/grill meet. Saturday Museum 1 Sunday Museum 2 depending on what deals/tours we can work out. Now what weekend in what month so I can start calling hotels and the museums for deals/tours unless anyone has any other ideas?

a meet and greet does sound pretty cool for starters. :aok

Depending on where you are, it isn't a myth. :p Where I am, we get maybe a month of sun in summer and between three days and two weeks of snow each year (though the last couple have had more); other than that it's either completely calm or gray skies and rain.
-
41 years here in the everrain er green state. later in the year the better. Summer dosent start around here till july 5th. Always rains on the 4th then it gets warm

Depends on where in washington you live. If its in the Columbia Gorge area, its hit an miss at best. 2 years ago, it was raining from mid September up through mid July, but last year we got rain from mid October through early May (fall of '09 to spring of 2010).
Also no bars or nightclubs, as I'm under 21.
