I wanted to try the new Catalyst 10.8 drivers for my 5850, moving up from the 10.7 drivers, and they caused a large hit in frame rate.
Without changing any other settings, the frame rate dropped between 10 and 15 FPS.
I searched a bit and found that other users experienced the same thing, so I reverted back to the 10.7 drivers and everything was back to the way it was.
So, I wanted to post this to give a heads up to anybody else thinking of installing the Catalyst 10.8 drivers.

Awesome! Just out of curiosity, what were your FR before and after?

It's usually between 74-76 at 1650x1080 res (custom monitor driver since my monitor supports a 76MHz refresh rate).
When I tried the 10.8's, it was between 54 and 60, and the gameplay was very choppy, almost like I was getting a framerate in the 20's.
If you'd like how I have the card OC'd or the setup in Windows or AH, let me know.

Been fighting with same. It displays a FR in CTL-I that is well in excess of the actual refresh rate of my monitor, but there are tremendous "studders" of between 50 to 100 ms, and visually, the card appears to the eye as though it is only running at between 15 and 20 fps at times - even when with vsync off CTL-I is showing 120+,and with it on it never moves from 59-60.
