Vulcan lives in Wellington which is rather far from the epicenter.. but still.. man it sucks to be in a 7+ shaker. Hope there was little or no loss of life.

Fine cheers :)

Yeah my family ... or should I say families are down that way though. Parents are in aussie on holiday, sisters house lost her chimney but all are ok, haven't heard from my half-sisters though. Place is pretty buggered as they don't really worry about quakes down there (where I am is sposed to be where the 'next big one hits') and I don't think many older buildings down there have been earthquake proofed. Christchurch is very very flat, not that many tall buildings, so mostly damage is old brick structures. There's been a few injuries, a couple serious (and when I saw a couple I really do mean 2). So NZ's quake orientated building codes have helped out I guess.

Apparently it was only 30km deep, quite shallow hence the damage.

Never really had been in a MAJOR quake, (was born 2 years after last major in bay area) but been in some medium sized ones (4.5-5.2) and its really freaky. It's not fun at all. Hope everything is ok.

Then again, it's what i get for living in Cali
