Would like to know what you guys use as a home video software for editing. I bought Nero 9 and tried to play with that but i'm having all kinds of problems with freezing and everything u can think of. Can't read files anymore and more. So what really works for you?? Second problem I'm having was bad sectors in my mini dvd disc. Would like to know of a good recovering program you guys use for that too. My camcorder is a Sony and I use mini DVD-RW and never had a problem in the past but lately it happens more often. I can watch the video from the camcorder without a problem but having problems copying it on my hardrive or capturing it with software. Tks :cry

Pinnacle Studio Gold for editing.
You can import direct off your camera and the software will control the camera.

Question about Pinnacle Studio... Will it allow you to drop high resolution still images, like jpegs, into a project? In essence, can it be used to create still shot slide shows with transitions etc? I like to build such slide shows, and work full motion video into the show. But I hate the software I've been using and am always on the look out for something better.

Yes you can drop stills, animations, blue screen, and green screen. It has a large selection of great transitions included. You can add sound effects, voice overs, music with very precise control. You can have the software automatically make your DVD menues or make them yourself.
When you use stills you can zoom in and pan around to make your slide show more interesting.

Thanks for the response, one more quick question... Are there multiple audio and video tracks (or maybe channels is more the term, not certain)? The software I currently use has several tracks available for both audio and video which makes cutting things together simpler and gives me more options for multiple layers of sound.
Thanks

MY THING is i use a sony hd digital recorder. it records in 1080p, and through the sony pmb software that comes with it, i can watch my videos in hd. i seem to be unable to upload them straight from the camera though, and if i save them to my hd, even the sony pmb software will not let me save them in hd.
do these programs work with any cameras you're using, and do they allow you to save the videos to your hd in hd?
-
Corel does. It works with any cam I have tried. from my micro keychain cam for my on-board video on my RC planes, to my sony HD Camcorder, it works great!
I can save to HDD, output to DVD or BlueRay, even directly upload to youtube. Definitely one of the nicer vid editing suites I have used. Even has "green screen" capability, though I haven't played with that yet. I am a noob to digital video editing and still learning a lot every time I do a video.

cool!!
that's kind of what i'm looking for.
i hve a couple of awesome videos from warbirds over delaware.......one in particular of a pair of 1/5 scale corsairs with moki 5 cylinder radial engines on em. they look great on my computer. when i tried to upload them as i could to youtube thay looked like the quality of 10 yearsd ago.

YOutube always degrades the quality of videos. Ive had the same issues with them.. its a tradeoff... free hosting of your vids... poorer quality...
You can see some of my noobish attempts at video stuff at my youtube linked here:

that looks dreadful CAP, what format did you upload it to youtube?

camera records the videos as AVCHD 1080i format. the software that came with it will save the video within itself as the same. i haven't tried burning them to a dvd yet, but i think it uses the same format.
i couldn't get this format to upload, so i saved it first, as an avi, then a second time, but this time as an mpeg4. both look like crap on youtube.
sol's video that he linked looked great.
-
I use Pinnacle Pro Ultimate 12 and it works great with my Canon HG20 which records in AVCHD. Pinnacle did an update to the software that allowed them to connect to the camera directly and now I don't have to save to the HDD on my system unless I want to dump the footage over...which I do anyway.
It also allows me to turn them into flash movies if I need/want to and for direct uploads to Youtube and Yahoo Video.

Sony Vegas by far my favorite.

your movie is only 320x180 141kbps, some kind of "save for web" preset maybe?
try saving the original as 1080p (progressive, not interlaced) MPEG4 with the highest possibly quality setting (the bigger the filesize the better), then upload it. should sort it :aok

no such presets in the sony software. i just tried 2x to upload in hd format......no joy. possibly it could be that i'm using dsl here at home.
i'm going to try through the work computer on tuesday, and see what happens then.......i only have options to save as mpeg2, or wmv through sony's software.........
-
ok.....i was wrong. i had saved the one i linked as a wmv. it looks like poop as you guys saw. i had another saved as mpeg2, and that one.....along with the others i just put up today look good.
whelp...they look good, 'cept for my crappy filming.
here's that formation take off in better video quality.

here's the start up. this was a father/son team, and these corsairs were phenomenal. they had full hydraulics for the wings. gorgeous birds. the son flew his jet a little later, but my battery was dead.
