At midnight the AvA arena had 31 people. At 1:30am there were still 20! What a fun night with great fights galore! :rock

Enjoyed the flying and the map. Great job Ranger. :aok

funniest part for me was when JG11 challenged me to 1v1 him over something that wasent related to AH. the he backed down TWICE from me & my b25 when i answered his challenge. :rofl

It was nice to see the number up and hoping that we will see it growing. Love the concept of no icon on the enemy. Makes it vary challenging to know what you are you against and range.

We had a good time for a couple hours.
I don't much like the sky conditions. High noon looks like a Gulf Coast sunrise in there. Annoying after a hour. Bright clear sunshine is preferable to perpetual dim. Its 9 am here on the southeast Texas coast and many times brighter than the arena was. Not realistic in my flying experience.
The AvA shouldn't use stagnant settings that make no icons more difficult. Either have the time moving or set high noon and clear visibility. Folks are already predisposed to immediately dislike no icons because it is very DIFFERENT. Don't fall for the temptations to play with arena settings just because you can.
And of course there are the one or two AvA flyers that insist on trying to needle folks into getting angry enough to fly in the manner they would prefer. I use the squelch feature regularly but others let it get to them. Its obvious that these folks are AvA old timers even though they are using new game ID's.
There is still a mentality of the AvA being a Bruce Lee movie where the bad guys take turns fighting the HERO one at a time. This does not encourage squadrons to operate there as a time as that is contrary to the entire squadron concept.
If the AvA wants squadrons to show up they need to make it clear that the tactics and techniques used in real life are to be expected and encouraged.

Just ask a staffer that's on to change it back to blue sky. It was just an experiment & when it was time to change it back, no staffers were on. I wasn't on yesterday to ask.

1. I don't know who the AvA staffers are.
2. I would think instead of taking the time to post here you would just go change it if it was supposed to be changed.

Look for Oldman, Soda, Jaeger1 or Jimson (I think), and there's probably a few more staff members.

Shucks! Wish I could've been there. Too bad I had to work 6am in the morning and had to go to bed early. I'll see about swinging in there later this evening. :)

Joined September, 2010 and this is your 4th post in. Welcome to the AH BBS boards. Here you will find a variety of AH cartoon pilots from all backgrounds. Some you will like, and others you won't. My first advice: don't bring any drama to the boards, trying to make yourself look big, because people will redicule and laugh at you. A bad thing if you're looking to make some friends. :salute

I had some good fun, thanks guys!
I would have liked to switch sides now and again, but the hurry is an ok bird.
The LD had a few guys in. We were trying to fly as a squad, but we kept dying and re upping and got scattered.....
Although without icons I'm just about useless, I do enjoy the SA learning curve.
A big <S> to the map guys. Really nice clouds and ground fog. I liked the colors.
I agree with faster days (time of day) and don't forget night time, even if it's 5 minutes long.
One flight "night" was turned on, I remember looking for high cons using the moon light, really cool.
I do enjoy ava more than the ma, so I will make a point to fly it more often.
Now if we could have this setup for the SEC.....oooooooh! :airplane:
Thanks again for the good fights all!

Some people who are unfamiliar with the AvA may not know that there is no time limit on side switching. You can go back and forth at will.

What, just because you demand it? I don't think so stud. You want it changed? Then you get it done. I don't have control of the settings & I happen to like the way it looks, as does everyone else it seems. Ever notice you complain in every post you make? If you don't like it, there are plenty more arenas.

Fork, would you please give Ranger his pill?
(watches)
Thank you.

Thanks oldman,
I was referring to whole sides switching, all allies to axis...etc... I fly with my squad, normally 4-8 pilots.
We can't switch unless the other side does as well, for side balance sake. After only providing a fat target for the 109's I thought it would be fun to see what I could do against the hurry's and p40's. I'm not complaining, it's just a fun thing to do every hour or so.

PS no icons rock

Lastnight was probably the most fun I've had in WWII planes/gvs. Was fun to take the Boston up against a 109F, even if I didn't notice he was trying to rtb after 10mins of being pounded by .303s. :P
GVing in those river towns is simply amazing, awesome work Ranger. Little ol' panzers never knew what hit em as I snuck around those tight towns. :)

Fantastic map and awsome settings!!
I really hope the AvA can take off this time because for me this is the way I want to fly AH.
Unfortunatly I think the no icon setting (which I love) turns of alot of people. Same with the plane set. I love it but due to some unexplainable reason most players in AH feel the need to fly THEIR plane all the time and really want to wing 109s with Ponys. I really hope that Im wrong and that more people find their way into the AvA and enjoy the fantastic map and two sided fighting.

<Salute> To all the AvA 'ers who made last Sunday the best :rock
I've been playing AH for a year and a half and that was the most enjoyable fight I have had. Credit to USRanger for the map and credit to all the guys(whiners inc...) who showed up. The AVA, when numbers are good is why I play.
I was there with my squad "249 RAF Gold Coast" taking Hurri's out to meet them 109's.
How hard was that fight? Jeez!! So good to fly a real immersive squad sortie. Had to really think it out and plan ahead.
Hope I get another night like that, it was the best by a long way.

I posted in another thread that I absolutely loved it. I think I had been in the AvA arena maybe 2 or 3 other times if that and I had a blast. I loved the no icons, it made it fun. I wouldn't know someone was on me until either someone else told me or I heard an engine or shots, that made for some fun times. It's a great thing you guys are doing in there and hopefully I'll be able to pop in more often.

this new twin rivers map has revived the AvA i swear
