I would like the option to suspend your account In the account admin, there would be an option listed as "suspend account". It would pause payments for your account, and not let you log in untill you resume payments. If you try, a message saying "account suspended" will be displayed.
-
IIRC, you can call HTC and they will lock down your account for you.

Where you going Nemisis?

It is not HTC's policy to normally suspend accounts.

I might be taking a break LLogan, but I haven't decided yet. AH just doesn't seem as fun as it used to be, and even the good fights have lost some of their shine in my eyes, and so I might take a break for a year or two.
And why is my name in bold, btw?

Since it is possible, is there any chance we may see this feature being added? If there is, of course you will add to/modify this to ensure that HTC isn't scammed or cheated in any way. Even if there is a maximum suspension time of 3yrs, that would be great.

No, read HiTechs post, I was wrong.

So, you want HTC to store you account for free, keeping the name on hold etc etc.. and them not charge you? I didn't pay for 2 months and they erased my old account. It's what happens. If you are afraid of losing your perks, let me show you my two fingered violin. I can't even remember how many I lost. Years of work.. gone. So why are you special in this? HTC is a business. If you want to come back after a break, and your name still be there, you had best keep paying for it. (Websites are like this for the most part, don't pay, loose that nice www.idontlikepayingforthings. com address)
I'm sure if something extreme happened, HTC would review your request. They aren't heartless, but they are a business. Leaving because the game has lost it's kick for you personally, does not constitute something extreme.
Oh, btw if you told me that you want me to hold your place in line and then told me the reason you want me to hold it is because standing in line has lost it's appeal, but you might be back later... Your spot would be gone before you took your second step out of the line. Unless you paid me, then it benefits me to keep it.
With all due respect Nemisis, this whole idea is harebrained.

He's not going anywhere, he asked for an option to suspend your account. :D

calm down seph, I was just asking. No one but HTC knows the cost of keeping accounts active, and so if the cost was insignificant, it wouldn't be too much to ask for IMO. Hell, I'd be fine with a reduced payment, say $8.00 a month if thats what it costs to maintain the account, and give HTC some profit.
Damnit Vinkman, you had to go and tell him didn't ya :D!

:lol He wouldn't be the first....

Callsigns & planes are always bold mein Freund!!! :rock

Not wanting to lose perks is probably a good reason for most guys to keep their account active. If we had this option everyone would do for months on end, coming back at their leisure.

They will, for $14.95 a month. As long as you pay, you lose nothing.

forget the perks, its losing the name that matters to me. I have given up accounts with thousands of perkies, to get the name that I wanted. In this recession, sometimes pennies count. I am lucky i can afford to play, but there's lots of friends that had to quit. Really wish there was a way to suspend the account, maybe a one time once a year/lifetime thing. But that's HT's decision.

And I figured this was going to be another "I got caught cussing on 200 and my account got suspended" posts...

I'm saving 90% of all the money I make thats not already allocated to aces high, so I can pay my way through college if I have to. I'm trying to get a scholership, but I'm planning without it so I won't have too many nasty suprises. Since I may be taking a break, I thought it would be cool if HTC could pause, deactivate, or suspend an account, and reactivate it later. Maybe save the $180 a year.
And I could care less about perks, since I can easily earn the GV perks (about all I use) needed to use the M4A3 and the odd tiger without watching too closely.

Biiig +1 from me... Not that I'm anyone of consequence.
I'm in college, and recently I haven't been able to spare the $15 for this game, but I do hope to come back when money isn't so tight. As a result, I have to keep canceling and creating new accounts. While this ultimately works fine, I was very bummed to find out that I couldn't re-activate my old name so that my stats would carry over. It was always fun going back and looking at historical data. Personally, perks mean jack to me since I don't ever fly perk rides, unless it's a squad thing or something.
I personally would like to see a pay-as-you-go option. Basically, you pay for a month's time, you get a month's time, and whenever you pay again, is when you get the next month. Many, many subscription type games have this option, and it is really a very nice feature and adds flexibility and simplicity to those like us.
I don't really understand why the policy exists as it does now, if it's about server space, I feel like all the newly created accounts would take up more space rather than storing an inactive account that will be used again in the future.

Did you just try to reactive on-line or did you call HTC? I know of a number of people that have gotten their old name back. They called HTC, and proved the account was theirs with the login info, email info and such and the name was released back to them. I don't know how often they purge the servers of un-used names, but I know the names stay on the boards for awhile.

Label the option as R&R?

I can appreciate saving money, especially for school (Hope you do well!), but it's 50 cents a day. You can't buy a soda (typically) for 50 cents anymore. My college sold em for $1.25 as an example, or $450 a year. $180 a year sounds good in comparison. But we must add add in anything you do for fun to get a true picture.
If you were to go out drinking say.. twice a month at a bar for a total of say 8 hours (4 hrs per visit), then you'd spend on average (I used mine and my friends alchohol consumption as my baseline. I rarely ever drink) $20 a trip, or $480 yearly. Let's say you don't drink, but you do smoke cigarettes. Let's be ultra conservative and say you smoke half a pack a day. Let's also assume you live in a great state where it's not $7 or more dollars a pack, and it's just $5.00 a pack (is what I can get them for in VA, am in MD), well, that would be $5*14days (we'll even use a 28 day month) then $70*12mo= $840 a month of nicotine. Other smokables would be higher.
But there are alot of good souls who don't do any of that. Let's say you just get NetFlix or something along that line. 2 DVDs at a crack is about 15 dollars, and 3 is about 18. There's AH right there. I could go on and on about similar things, but the basic idea is this: You will spend money on entertainment. It's all about finding what you want most. I'm sure that is HTCs stance on such, and why they changed the way they removed names.
Couple of years ago, you could walk away for months, even a year before they would remove you account and or name if at all (I can attest to such with my name and account and members of my squad). It's your choice on what you want more: Name saved, Fun Activities, School. You need the latter 2, but you can incorporate the former into that as well. Sometimes you can have your cake, and eat it too... But I doubt this is one of those opportunities.
I also apologize for the harshness I came at you with initially. The tone could be turned down a bit, but the point is the same. I hope I didn't carry the tone to this response. :salute

No. It makes good business sense not to when you actually take a moment and "think" about it. When people become tied to their persona they tend to keep it alive if the alternative is persona erasure. If people could "suspend" their accounts then I can guarantee you HTC would spend a considerable amount of time just deactivating the reactivating accounts add naseum. Therefore when the time comes for a person to "take a break" then chances are they really need to, and the break will tend to be sufficeint enough that when (and if) they come back they will be fully recharged.
Besides, if it made such good sense then it would have been a feature years ago.
Hope this helps :)

Not a problem SEseph, I try not to let things like that bug me. If they did, I'd have been driven off the boards a while ago.
I don't smoke or drink, and I'm a fairly cheap bastard about gas money, so I'm just looking for ways I can save money. I mean $180 will by me a couple months worth of ramen noodles or macaroni and cheese, and I assume I'll be living hand to mouth through college unless I can get a high paying part-time job.

Just tried to reactivate online, I'll have to do that when I get paid, would love my original account back!

If you call HTC and request your old name be released, they will do so 99% of the time. Was what I had to do back in Jan/Feb to get it back, but it's not that big a deal.
Remember, they can only say No, they can't ki... well, I guess here they could kill ya! So, when ya ask, remember your flak vest. :aok
