Just wondering real quick what your favorite movie trilogies are. I think for me its probably the Bourne series.
-
No brainer, for trilogy it is Star Wars followed by Lord of the Rings. Matrix is a third, but the last two ruined the first.
-
Well, they are to be the trilogy but the third moves most likely will not happen. They are "Gettysburg", "Gods and Generals" and the last one was named "The final push".

Last one, at least the novel, is "The Last Full Measure".
Best trilogy is Indiana Jones. I refuse to count the new one.

Star Wars Trilogy, better in print than on the silver screen

Die Hard. I don't count that fourth piece of crap.
Or Mad Max.
-
What is this BS
He knows not what he speaks of.
For me, it would probably be LOTR, followed by star wars, and then Godzilla series (So corny its awesome)
-
I like Die Hard, Star Wars and Indy Jones.
Penguin.... No.... Just.... No, buddy. Think before you speak... it will save your arse some day. Perhaps no tin a situation like this, but I've seen some other posts..... Just advice. :lol
-
The Lord of the Rings, (although I wouldn't really consider it a trilogy so much as a full movie in its own right) followed by the UNALTERED Original Star Wars Trilogy, then the first three Indy movies.
-
Come on guys.. you've forgotten the obvious winner...
TOY STORY!
-
still smokin up in smoke shrimp on the barbie OWNT, w police academy close behind
-
Starwars, Indy, Toystory, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR
-
The Man with No Name Trilogy

-
Randal Graves: All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi."
Star Wars FTW :rock
-
Last one, at least the novel, is "The Last Full Measure".
Thx for the correction, i think it is the same for the movie too.
-
Pirates of the Caribbean
Matrix (although the ending sucked)
Spiderman
-
Pirates of the Caribbean

1 Star wars
2 Indiana Jones (Still a trilogy, hate the 4th)
3 LOTR
4 Back to the future
5 Godfather
-
I thought there were six Star Wars movies?
Back to the Future
-
Aren't you GUYS forgetting something------
1. All the Rambos-LOL (I am laughing because I serve in the military)
2. Airplane
No charge for my 2 cents
-
I'll have to go with Godfather here.
-
I was disappointed with the second and following Indy movies. If they had all been as good as Raiders, it would rank as the best trilogy in my book.
-
Ace Ventura series, Austin Powers series, and the Mission Impossible series.....oh wait, you said favorite movie trilogy :D Star Wars IV, V, and VI before they were "remastered" :(
-
I'll start off my admitting I used Wikipedia to help me remember some of these, but I have indeed seen all three movies in all these trilogies.
Section 1: Great trilogies
Format: Trilogy, favorite movie within it
1. Star Wars (original, unedited) Empire Strikes Back
2. LOTR. Two Towers
3. Back to the Future. Original
4. Indy. Raiders of the Lost Ark
5. Bourne. Identity
Section 2: First and second movies are good, but the third should have never happened.
1. Godfather
2. Matrix
3. Blade
4. Spider man
5. Alien (I know there were more than 3, but they aren't really worth mentioning...)
Section 3: You really should have stopped at 1.
1. Jurassic Park
2. Austin Powers
3. Mission Impossible
4. Oceans 11.
5. Crocodile Dundee
-

Amen.
-
The ocean trilogy is really good. The second kinda fell flat but the Oceans 11 and 13 are great.
-
Too bad the Bourne had nothing to do with the books.
Star wars
Godfather
Scareface (long enough to make 3 movies).
Semp
-
The Three Bears followed closely by The Three Pigs.
-
Last one, at least the novel, is "The Last Full Measure".
Best trilogy is Indiana Jones. I refuse to count the new one.
Best trilogy? you should be kicked in the nuts, there were only 2 good Indiana Jones movies, the Raiders of the Ark and the Last Crusade. #2 and #4 were utter crap.
Best trilogy of all time is Star Wars IV, V and VI. With Star Wars V being the best sequal to a movie ever made.

I read two star wars book and unlike normally when a book is made and then a movie is made out of it it becomes crap since it was the opposite the book only told the story of exactly what happened in the movie and it sucked.

Our opinions differ, but learn to appreciate the scores of spin-offs as well! Vector Prime, Rebel Dawn, Ambush at Correllia, Splinter of the Mind's Eye; all great books.

FAIL.
New Jedi Order was an absolute MESS and it, and everything that came after, should never have happened (I mean seriously, Jacen as a Sith Lord? Daala being elected president? WTF?). Corellian Trilogy was ok, but there were FAR better books in the Bantam run.
Only books that were really worth reading:
The Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last Command)
The X-wing Novels (Stackpole really nailed the feel of the film's space battles, and the "Redemption Scenario" at the beginning was a great reference to the games. I LOVED Allston's sense of humor. The Ewok pilot running gag had me in stitches)
I, Jedi
The Hand of Thrawn (Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future)
Lucas should have hired Timothy Zahn to write the Prequel Trilogy. It would have been AWESOME.

I was somewhat surprised at my first thought when I read the question, but I'll go with it anyway.
The John Ford Trilogy of Cavalry Westerns starring John Wayne. "Fort Apache", "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon", "Rio Grande."
I very much enjoyed Star Wars when it came out, but never bought the rest of the story in the following films. Too much making it up as they went along. Back to the Future didn't make it as II was awful. Godfather had a shot, but III was terrible. LoTR is good, but got long after a while.
The three in Ford's Trilogy are just good story telling.

These I will entirely agree with. The Thrawn series was well written, but something about those books didn't feel right back when I read them. Mayhaps I should go back and take another glance...

Spot on, I have all the star wars books up until the new jedi order. For short reads my fave is Tales from Jabba's palace, tho I like all the 'Tales' books

Despite the fact that we refer to those films in capital letters (they're simply The Trilogy), I don't count those for the simple fact that unlike nearly all the trilogies listed so far, they have none of the same characters or continuing story arc. Same actors, but in different roles. Still among my top ten of favorite movies though.
Oh, and some of us also refer to it as The Four Part Trilogy if you consider "The Horse Soldiers".

Ehh starwars is ok, I wasnt really ever a big starwars fan. I love LOTR though.

-
The Hoth scenes were some of the greatest at time time and I loved it. But once it got to Cloud City, I lost interest. I remember feeling really let down. When Return of the Jedi came out, the fim broke on 2 separate occasions, and we didnt see the complete movie till the 3rd try. Torture I tell ya!
-
Well the original SW trilogy tops my list for nostalgia purposes, although I honestly feel the LOTR saga was better. Need to sit down and watch those again.
As far as novels go, I pretty much restrict my SW reading to anything by Zahn. The graphic novel series (SW Tales, Dark Empire, Legacy) have also been fantastic.
One thing SW fans should check out are the George Lucas Selects Fan Films. Here's some of the best:

What is this BS
I was playing golf with a die hard Star wars fan. He wasn't playing so well and I was giving him a few pointers. He got irritated, lowered his voice an octave and threatened me. It startled me a bit, but then I countered, Your Darth Vader imitation is weak! Oh man, did that set him off even further.
While I like many of the trilogy movies, such as Pirates of the Carribean, Die Hard, Spiderman, etc. The sequals were just awful. For consistency the first 3 of the Bourne series were pretty darn good. I think I will go with that.

I think i remember a longer version of this tale except that guy was more of sweetheart

i vote Star Wars IV, V, VI hands down. will never be topped. LOTR, while decent, will never, EVER hold a candle to original Star Wars. the opening music still gives me the chills :rock

LOTR was beyond epic, but it was just a little too cheesy and kiddy. Granted, star wars had its moments too, i.e. care bears running around a forest taking down an imperial army with rocks, give me a *()@$@# break. Besides that, star wars ftw!
