Title: Quick help
Post by: icejaff on September 10, 2010, 02:58:00 AM
Sorry for the quick typing in this, I have my plane on auto level while I have my escorts.
I was wondering how I gain heights a bit quicker I have held "k" for a bit and seen the difference but I am in a bomber atm just weighing over 71,000 I need to gain abit of height before my bombing run any ideas?

Patience, Grasshopper.   ;)

Give yourself more time by taking off from a base that is a bit farther away from your intended target.

Gaining alt quickly and flying bombers do NOT go together as well as peanut butter and jelly.

which bomber are you flying?

i generally fly lancasters. for relatively short runs(less than 2 or 3 sectors), i take 25% fuel, and the full 14,000 bomb load. at that, she only climbs at about 700 to 800FPM. on these runs, i'm generally not over 10k alt.
if i want to fly longer, and mess with the bad guys deep in their territory, i take 75%, and still the full load of bombs. with this, it's usually 600 to 700FPM, or somewhere near that. on these runs, i'm generally well over 20k alt. it takes a long time to get there, but it's worth it for the bombing fun.

you need patience in bombers. they are big lumbering lazy aircraft.

remember too, in lancasters, when you're lining up your target, start at LEAST 2 full sectors from your target. that's about 50 miles. they need that much time to stabilize your speed. it can be done in less distance, once you've had practice, but for now, use that for a guideline. also, make sure your bomb bay doors are open when you begin to stabilize your speed.

hope this helps.
