Better than that fly the Stars and Bars proudly from sunup to sunset to let everybody know you are an American and will never bow down to terrorism.

I have to be honest.........  I find this kind of thread to be detrimental to the America I know and love....(http://www.candidz.com/forum/images/smilies/Flags/USA.gif)    Next thing you know, we'll want a national holiday.  I've lived most of my life across the River in Hudson County, Dirty Jerz.  Fam got out of the bK when I was 4, and I have no reason to move back.  I like to still consider myself a New Yorker though.  The home office is three blocks away from World Trade... And here is how I see it:

I hear people talk about making September, the 11th a holiday, a day of rest, a day of remembrance, blah, blah, blah. The people that lost their lives that day, predominantly from the NYC area, but also from around the world. would be turning over in their graves if on that day we decided to close business, do nothing, stop commerce, and just remember.  At least all of my New Yorkers would.  If you've never been here, I'm sure you hear about the New York State of Mind from movies, friends, books, sports, the news and every other place out there, right?  IT'S TRUE!  Heck in 2004, I used a walker for about 6 months......  I can't tell you how many times I had to brace for impact.  That's just the way it is when 8 million people are trying to go to work, while 3 million tourists are all looking up at the buildings.  We push, we shove, on occasion we might hit.

If I could somehow speak to a fallen member of New York City's Bravest, and told him, they want to make it a holiday that nobody works..........  He'd come back to haunt those people wanting it.

And just to be clear, YES, I lost a friend and my buddy lost his mother.  I will think about that Tuesday a whole crapload more than just on the 11th day of the 9th month.  I don't need to take a day off to do that.  And I certainly don't want it to ever become a forgotten holiday............  (I know few American's who actually remember what December 7th is <This group in here aside of course>)

And forget all that silly New York Mentality.....  If the USA took the day off and no money was made, do you want to know what Al Queda would do......... Throw a party.   :furious

It's exactly what they would want us to do, spread the word, say no to a National Holiday that would close schools, the stock market, and everyday commerce......

RANT OVER:

I truly wish that all of the victims on that day have found peace, as well as their families to one day find peace.   :salute

Tomorrow I will be especially thoughtful, perhaps even a bit anxious..... I'm flying commercial to Miami.

Big movement on facebook to make it a holiday, I refuse to join, if we stopped it would be letting the terrorists win.

I was standing at ground zero when the second plane hit.  I had just come out of the Port Authority terminal under the towers and had reached street level.  Down in the terminal you could tell something was going on, but no clue what.  But that's a story for another time.

I say the best way to remember September 11 th each year would be to kick the living toejam out of at least one enemy of the state who's mouthed off the loudest about how they're going to destroy us.  It should be a field day of Shock, Awe, and American Golly-geen Mother diddlying Firepower to remind the world we still got the weapons and the Golly-geen diddlying will to use them.

To activate smoke you will need a CM, and in the MA smoke is disabled.

Okay I'm going to get flamed here but I've got to say it. I'm still horrified by the events of 911, and I cannot begin to properly thank and appreciate the sacrifice of the first responders of the NYFD and NYPD on that day.Or thank the passengers of Flight 93, or have enough sympathy for the people that lost loved ones that day. Not to mention all the dead and wounded service members from the US Military and our Allies in the War on Terror which came from 911. They should all be remembered and honored properly.

That being said flying a bunch of make believe airplanes across a make believe map flown by make believe pilots hardly serves as a tribute to the fallen of 911. In fact it is no more than a ridicules gesture by people who are placing too much importance on this game and not enough on real life.  If you really want to do something to honor these people on 911 turn off your computer get off your butt and go out into the real world and make a difference. Help your neighbor with a project, do volunteer  work around your community. Give to your local fire dept or police benevolent fund. Go to a local park and clean up any trash, better yet if your community has any kind of memorial for anything to do with the history of this country go there and ensure it's clean mowed and trimmed. Clean and mow your own property to enhance the beauty of your community. Drop bake goods off at the police or fire department. You could even drop baked goods off at a local military recruiting station. Greet people you pass on the street or in the stores today. Thank each and every fireman police officer or service member you come across for their service to your community and country.

If you're going to do something to honor 911 victims and heros then really do something. Don't pretend to do something while pretending you're a pilot in a pretend world.

As a native New Yorker, I just want to see the Freedom Tower finished(personally I wanted to a building in the shape the Bird(state bird of NY) aka Middle finger. but thats just me. Al qaeda brought the fight to my home and I brought it back to their backyard, Afghanistan. I will be at peace when the families are at peace. I remember when the Towers went up, when they fell apart of me died too but I still have my memories and those are something no one can take away. Don't need another holiday, holidays are usually a funtime. I remember all the fallen on Memorial Day. :salute  TC out

Indeed. This is a special day, like 7 December is every year. I will remember always and more vividly as I have lived through 11 September. Everyone even if you weren't CONUS remembers where they were that day and what they were doing. We must never let our guard down again. The enemy is among us now.  Beware.

...
I am sorry to admit that, prior to 9/11, I had a less than respectful attitude towards cops and firemen.

It all changed when those brave people ran into collapsing buildings.  These professions always called for the suppression of the flight instinct, but 9/11 was a dramatic example of courage across the board.

I’ve been present at two war zones in my life time.  The first November 67 to May 69, as a young medic in the 5th Special Forces in Viet Nam.  The second on 9/11 while working as an IT consultant on the 57th floor of the North Tower WTC,  for the Mayor’s  Office City of New York.  First thing I do now when  I go into a office building is look up and wonder what lies just above the ceiling tiles and think how heavy is it?  I got out onto and cross over Church Street 6 minutes before it came down.  I spent the next 23 hours on scene working once again as a combat medic.

I’m all for a day of remembrance as long as it remains un-official.  I don’t want it to become like so many official holidays in America.  The meaning lost the date changed year by year to ensure it fails on a Friday or Monday.  In 2010, June 6th, “D” Day,   A day that cost the lives of ten thousand Americans  was not even mentioned on Broadcast News.
