Got back a couple hours ago from the California Capital Airshow in Sacramento. First time at an Airshow, and have to say is Holy buck, Fatman!
Loved every moment of it, got to sit in the cockpit of the C-17 and the B-25 (J i think). Got up close to the P-38's before they took off as well. Have to say though, the announcer for the F-22 would have been a bit better if he talked a lot less, at one point it seemed like he was just spewing out borderline propaganda, lol. Had a bit of an internal rage fit when this one woman started talking about the 38 saying how it "actually was a bomber" and that it was "dangerous for it to do acrobatics". Oh well. Overall, was an AMAZING experience, and would definately go to others once i find some more money, especially for gas. One thing though, definitely need to bring hearing protection for the jets, completely underestimated the volume.
Willing to post pics once I get them up on Facebook so I have a more organized hosting spot.

Pictures! They were taken from my cell that has a decimated screen, so I was basically guessing on what was in the frame.

You picked a good show for your first time.
Did you go on Sunday? How many P38s were there? They advertised six, but there was four when I was there Saturday. Did the other two arrive for the Sunday show?
Here's a few I took.

Only three flew on sunday, the pilot of the 4th, I think it was Honey Bunny, was ill and unfit to fly from what I heard.

Nice -- thanks for the pics, folks! :aok

Everyone in the 80th was going but we never got off the ground.

great pics thanks. I love how people are avoiding the sun by sitting in the shade of that F-5.

Oh you have to, it was pretty warm here this past weekend and even with sunscreen the sun baked you pretty quick. I actually forgot my sunscreen at home and tried to avoid standing in the sun as much as possible but I still got a bit of a sunburn after a couple hours.
Seeing the 38's was great, but to me the high point was the P-38 association tent which had it's own small admission fee, but there were several former P-38 pilots and vets camped out in there under the shade telling stories and answering questions. I picked up a new P-38 unit history (449th FS)while I was in there and chatted with the author a bit and he was nice enough to sign it along with one of the few members still alive who helped with the project.
Apparently there's a group of former P-38 pilots who meets in Sacramento, CA once a month. Unfortunately they usually do it on a Thursday, so I'll have to take a day off here in the future and try and go say hi.

I went on sunday, it was pretty sweet. I'll try and get some pictures up and posted. Unfortunately, I didn't have $5 extra bucks to spend to go out and get up close w/ the P38's, but got right up on everything else I could. It was pretty sweet.
I watched the F22 demonstration from the East side of the event back by the taxiway and gates, so you really couldn't hear the announcer, and the Raptor was doing a lot of manuvers right over that section of the runway. It was pretty awesome. I have to say, I shoulda brought a chair. I'll remember next time. I had to pop a squat inside the C5 for about 15 minutes to sit down and get out of the sun for a minute, then it was back to the beer tent and back to the show.
Favorite part hands down was the P38's forming up on the F22. My camera was dead (no batteries) so I gotta get pics from a friend, see if his were any good.

Borderline? :lol I ain't going to flame you dude, cause you think that's all I do...... But maybe you should know what the word means before you use it.
Have to say though, the announcer for the F-22 would have been a bit better if he talked a lot less, at one point it seemed like he was just spewing out ? borderline ? propaganda, lol.
Also keep in mind this......... The only reason you were allowed to walk up to a Raptor is the propaganda associated with, and forced onto, it's showing off. American's are not the only people that go to our airshows kid. In essence, we allow for counter espionage at an airshow simply because we are spewing misinformation.
:salute Sir
And may I just say.... Those camera phone pics are dam awesome!!! :aok
