About to receive my T1 connection and I am not familiar with this term or how to install etc. The Co. that will do the installation said it is up to me.
I will be getting the NIC card Ethelink 10/100
3cr990-TX-97.
Any help in this matter will be much appreciated.
Thanks Ed

Check out zonealarm, it's free. :)
I think it's www.zonelabs.com (http://www.zonelabs.com)

I’ve had the 'black ice' ($14.99 US i think) firewall for about 6 months now, it was very simple to install and when you get an attack it gives you a link to a webpage that explains the attack and whether or not you should be worried about it. Also easy to change the level of security you want and it keeps records of the IP address of attacks and probes into your system.
I haven't really checked out the competition though but this seems to be working fine and didn't cost much.

http://www.sygate.com (http://www.sygate.com)
It is slightly better in some "critical" areas than either black ice or zone alarm. I have changed to it on all my machines, it's free for personal use and setup was better than the other two.

Thanx bloom25
this is a great site!
Ran all his tests ... results my computers do not exist on the net, for all intents and purposes.
He recommends zonealarm and I admit it is good but I stand by my decision to go with the sygate offering (it is much easier for my wife to deal with), I have never had it "loose it's mind" which I have noticed with zonealarm.
By the way has anyone else had zonealarm just stop allowing data flow and had to shut it down and re-start it to get it running again?

Don't forget www.winroute.com (http://www.winroute.com)
An excellent stable solution.
