Title: P47??
Post by: JOACH1M on September 17, 2010, 05:41:45 AM
Ok I'm flying a 47 and I came to noticed that the N model seems to catch on fire WAY to easily just from a few rounds from a Brewster 600+ out. I read ww2 accounts about that thing taking massive amounts of damage and begin to fly on...the f6f and fm2 seem to take loads of damage so why can't the jug N. :headscratch:

My first guess would be that it has wet wings. So you are putting some fuel out away from all the armor plating in the fuselage and I am not sure if the wing tanks in the N model were self sealing or not. Any of these things would lead it to be more susceptible to catch fire.

P-47N = flying gas tank.  Carries more fuel than the Mosquito.  That might, or might not, be an answer. I don't know.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing as Karnak

That's a good point Karnak, but It seems like I'm flying a
Massive zero and take 5 hits and I'm on fire. :joystick:

I've been flying the N nearly EVERY mission for 2 or 3 years, and it's most common damage is fire, oil and flaps. Been flyin D11 this camp,  Fire quite rare, RIGHT aileron, PW and Oil and almost a given

I'd rather have a oil tank hit or pw then a stupid fire.

Most often in my experience, the fire is from the Main fuel tank, and normally results from 6 o'clock to low 6"o'clock shots.  I don't understand it--I just push the "I believe" button, and play...

Try the D-40  :aok

I find that if you so much as yell at a D40 you get a fuel leak   :D

The d-40 can't do the same move and the N model

When I end up flying it I leave 25% in the auxiliary fuel tank. If you loose your main fuel the 25% will be enough to get back home.

D40 falls outta the sky tryin to do some of the same nose-up moves as the N....but the N simply cannot compete any way, shape or form with the F41A, k4, or Yak. D11 seems to fare better there, at least in my mind. (I've found I can see if I push nose all the way forward) I'll try it a few camps and decide

All it takes is one spark... same for pilot kills with one hit. Get used to it - bad luck.
