Title: Monitor Advice
Post by: Soda on September 04, 2001, 05:26:00 PM
I have an old Sony GDM17 that has turned  monochrome green (the death nail is right around the corner) and I'm looking for a new 19".

Recommendations?  I've heard Skuzzy say NEC fp955, I'm sure I've heard the Hitachi 751 Superscan Elite mentioned... any others I should look into? ADI? Samsung?

My system:
1.4 GHz Athlon, 64MD Radeon DDR...

I'm planning on buying locally, but was looking for a model that people are happy with.  Shipping monitors and such over the border into Canada is a bit of a hassle.

Played last night in monochrome green, every icon was friendly... until they started shooting.

The FP-955 is one sweet monitor.  But if you are moving from a curved monitor screen, it takes some getting used to as the screen of the FP monitors is flat in vertical and horizontal.
Now that I have had my 950 (predecessor to the 955), I can't stand looking at fishbowl tubes anymore.
If you go with the 955, make sure you reset the color temperature to 6500K, from the default of 9200K.  Makes for more natural colors, especially in the gray scale area.
Also make sure you video card and drivers can handle the plu-n-play features, so they can get the best (highest) refresh rates from the monitor.
